It's a very pretty place, but I recommend coming here during the rainy season when the countryside is green. Then it is pretty and also special.

We have driven past this reserve dozens of times. Clearly, while we were unaware of this gem, many others were better informed. While the maze of paths through the hills are the main attraction, take time to visit the small separate park area with some of the original ranch buildings and the (apparently) original orange tree in California!

Parking is a bit tricky, but once you're there, you can take many paths. Lots of different things to see including a secret little park.

One of the many jewels of Vacaville, you can take a nice walk or if you feel like hiking, you can climb the mountain using the road which will bring you to the top and one of the bay area's nicest views.

It is my favorite local park to walk with family and my dog . We have been going for years in different seasons and it’s always beautiful. It does tend to get crowded on the weekends now.

Very convenient stop along Highway 80 northbound before Vacaville, Historic site, but there is not much to see, and no bathrooms.

I love this little park, but am sorry the "secret" rope swing is gone. Great for dog walkers--there's even a dog park by the eastern side of the lagoon. If it's a warm/sunny day be sure to bring a hat and sunscreen!

From the historic Pena Adobe home and artifacts, Lagoon Valley Lake with geese and non-motorized boating and fishing, nearby Hume Grove (a small stand of coastal redwoods with picnic tables), multiple trails from an easy 2 mile lake loop to the 1.5 mile Tower Trail up 620 foot hills with great views - the 470-acre park has it's variety to explore. Additional amenities include barbecue areas, horseshoe pits, bike trails, disc golf course, a 30,000 square fenced-in dog park and plentiful parking ($5 day permit). Different events throughout the year the park is a popular destination.

Very nice park to visit offering lots of activities. Needs more police patrols to stop people from destroying gravel parking lots doing sideshow activity and enforce leash laws for dogs. Fresh gravel parking layed down at archery range just to have people tearing it up doing donuts in cars.

Always a great place to come for a variety of activities. Dog walking / dog park, walking trails, hiking trails, a footbridge, large ponds with ducks and geese. There is a lot of history here also if you take the time to tour. This is a historical gem. We come often.

How are the foxtails here? I want to start taking my puppy here but I'm concerned about the foxtails.

I have read very mixed reviews on the dog park. Can anyone please let me know if the dog park is a good place to take friendly non-aggressive dogs? My pooches are used to going to off leash parks with lots of open space and it seems like the more open space there is, the better it is for the dogs. We will be visiting the area in a week or two and looking for a fun place for dogs and their humans. :)

My experience with the dog run has been great. It is in an enclosed (Fenced) area, with lots of room for lots of dogs. A parking fee is charged to drive in and park within Lagoon Park.
I never had a problem with other guest or their dogs.

No...and you wouldn't want to. It's mostly goose poop.

Are there picnic tables?

Yes, plan to put something on them. A table cloth would be great. Some people are not clean and do not clean up after themselves.
I love this park, I just picnic to the left of the trail and pond. Under the trees is beautiful, peaceful and worth the walk.
Are BB guns aloud in the park ?
