There was a time difference in Purto Limon of an hour behind when we were there last March. We thought we had missed the tour as well no thanks to cruise ship staff having no clue. We did make it although you need to walk all the way out to the road. They cannot meet you at the ship.

My husband cannot walk long distances due to back issues. He was 72 at the time. You do have to walk to the tour as they do not pick you up right at the port. The nature walk was a half mile each way but not exerting as the pace was slow to see animals and the trail was flat. He had no trouble with the boat and it was not bumpy. If you wish, I am sure you can sit on the bus if need be, but like the other poster said, you will miss out on stuff. In the end you will have to use your own judgment. We really enjoyed this tour and learned alot, and saw sloths, 2 kinds of monkeys, an eyelash viper, and a little bat roosting under a leaf. The wildlife trail ran next to a beautiful beach too. Our guide was great at finding wildlife. We rode in one of the mini buses and our driver was very nice and drove safely.

I agree with the previous answer. We did this tour twice, and the first time we had two little ones with us, ages about 2 and 4. They loved the excursion. Definitely take some snacks and I would preview the trip with your son so he knows what to expect. Be sure to check whether they will be stopping for lunch. We did not have car seats for the bus, and I think you might want to email the company to see about that.
