So let me set the stage very carefully with this one. My husband and I were already two bars into our evening of purported debauchery in Shinjuku Ni Chome, Tokyo's gay district. We had already patronized two of the more popular venues, Eagle Tokyo and King Tokyo. A more sensible drunkard would've called it a night and taken the 45-minute metro ride back to the hotel.
But no, the devil on my shoulder whispered, "Oh, c'mon Eddie Boy, how about dropping by the gay muscle bar?" I blame Tokyo BTM, the YouTube channel run by two gay expats who are in an unapologetic hunt for Tokyo tops in their enlightening, often hilarious videos. On one particular episode, they paid a visit to this bar staffed by topless muscular men. I was amused by the concept and didn't think anything of it until..
We were drunk as skunks, and I pulled my husband by the arm to find this hidden subterranean bar lounge. We walked through a quiet alleyway and down a steep black stairwell. Found it. Now what's kinda funny in hindsight is the description of this bar in TripAdvisor as "family friendly and very fun" as if it was going to be a Disneyland ride. Well, let's say it was more like 'Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln' than 'Mr. Toad's Wild Ride'.
The all-black space was pretty empty, just a trio of aged salaryman and separately, one jittery guy in his 20's. The staff of three consisted of a young bartender dressed in black and two shirtless bodybuilders assigned to each customer group. We got Nori, a friendly 'host' with a large torso who explained that it costs each of us ¥2,750 for a cocktail, a tequila shot, a little bowl of rice crackers, and a chat with him.
His broken English was charming though we were rather distracted by his, ahem, other assets. Granted I've never had an impulse to touch Mr. Lincoln's chest, but it dawned on us that Nori was playing the role of a male geisha. On the Tokyo BTM video, the club was hosting a variety revue where several men were on display for ogling surrounded by admiring drag queens. Now that would've been something to see.

2020年初二丁目はやっぱりマッスルバーブラックヌードにきました！
スタッフの皆さんは皆鍛えてて目の保養になりました。
前回はカウンター席をゲットできなかったのですが、今回は20時ジャストに行ったのでカウンター席ゲットでき間近でマッスルバディを拝見できました。

スタッフさんが明るくて、楽しい時間を過ごせました😊
お客さん同士の椅子の距離が近かったり、会話が途切れることもなく、すぐに馴染めました。

Exploring the area I made up my list and we had the Muscle Bar Black Nude on our list, the staff is very friendly and we had a nice evening with them and the other customers even if we don’t speak Japanese, we drink, we sing and left happy!
