The views from the ruins were amazing, also we liked the story’s on boards explaining the past history. It helped we had a beautiful day to explore. If your not up for a walk up a hill then there was a free car park at the top right outside the grounds. Stop in the little town below for the toilet, a great cafe and a little further down a lovely kids playground which also has free car parking. You can easily spend half a day here exploring

We had parked in the town centre and had a short but quite steep walk up, but there is a car park at the top. Impressive ruins, mainly of the inner and outer walls, but enough to give you an impression of how it would have looked in it's day. Stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

We were on holiday in Wales with friends from Slovakia and we visited the town Montgomery and also it's castle. It's now a ruin but we had great view to the countryside from the top. It was worth a bit steep walk which started from The Dragon Hotel.

Interesting castle ruins with some information boards to enhance your experience. Fabulous panoramic views down over Montgomery and the surrounding countryside - you can easily see why this castle was built here! Access is via a small road up from Montgomery - small car park (including an electric car charger!) or there are paths up from the town. We went up via the path opposite Bunners hardware store (do go in - it’s a gem!) and came down via the track by the Dragon hotel. Use the cafes etc in Montgomery (some excellent choices) or take a picnic up to the castle - No facilities up at the castle but the town is only minutes away. Well worth a visit as is Montgomery town.

The castle was mainly ruins but beautifully kept in a prominent position with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. Free admission
Free car park. A lovely historic space to visit and for children to run around. I would thoroughly recommend a visit

Shame you have a sign up saying no dogs. It's a lovely place to visit.
Great views and nice snippets of history there. No dog rule just makes no sense

As we were driving past we decided to take a look. Free car park and then a small walk up to the ruins.
Fantastic views all around. Nice to have information boards as you wandered through the ruins.
We weren't there very long however worth a visit if you are passing.

We walked from Montgomery town up a steep hill behing the town hall to the castle. There's a car park at the top so you can drive up too. Free entry as There's no facilities just the castle and a few information boards. Despite this it's a well maintained site and has fantastic views of the surroundings (no wonder the spot was chosen for a fortification!) We spent about 20mins here walking around Reading the boards and imagining castle life!! We walked back down the hill via the terrace and came out by the bookshop.

The ruins themselves are worth a look at if you're in the area. They aren't extensive but they're free to visit. I would rather pay and have a bit of 'room' information. The whole experience not helped by the weather but as the reviewer below rightly noted, the ludicrous attitude of not allowing dogs outside spoiled it anyway. Why so precious? We visit many castles and ruins and I totally accept dogs not being allowed inside but on grass between stones (albeit historically significant ones) ! Absolute nonsense. Also if this is your policy tell us at the front gate because we rolled up too late to enter and returned to visit and weren't making an informed decision. We were told by an unwelcoming gentleman who gestured rudely and slammed the gate. I don't know if this is a Welsh 'thing' because we also had it at a garden centre and a walking cafe. Whoever is responsible needs a head wobble. So my partner didn't come in. And on the way out a woman came in with 2 labradors. I hope she was a rebel and not affiliated to the castle!

I now know that there is a car park, but wonder if there are signposts from the town?
Escrita el 26 de abril de 2016
