We spent four great days visiting Taxco, San Miguel de Allende, Puebla, and Teotihuacan doing a private tour, using Mexico City as our home base.
Mariana, our guide, did a wonderful job taking us to key areas within each, bringing to life the anecdotes and historical knowledge that made each day not just interesting but also helped weave the individual characteristics of each locale into a singular history of Mexico. Comprehensive, varied, and not tiring. In other words, well planned.
We found ourselves engaged in conversation with Mariana most of the time, which made the three to four hour drives each way pass quite quickly. In a sense, it was as if we were traveling with a family member who's lived there for ages and knows most everything there is to know, and who is happy to have you visit and loves to tell you all you want to know. This includes getting us to what IMO were the best restaurants in each city, combined with quite tasty side-street ice cream shop and candy store detours that fit the bill for the not-really-hungry-but-I-must-try-this cravings.
Important as well, Mariana is an excellent driver, the vehicle used was spacious, clean, and comfortable, her timing was great (and we did run longer than scheduled every day without any issue). Quite impressive how much energy she had every day, all day, considering the extent of travel across the four days.
Wholeheartedly recommend.
