Seeking a break from the heat, I popped into this shop and was so happy to have chanced upon it. A great selection of books, curated and displayed beautifully. The owner, Juanita, was there and we had a nice chat about books, Merida, Canada, etc. There are fun things to poke around at and a cafe right next door. You could easily spend a morning looking at the different options and reading in the shop or next door. A perfect spot to pick up some holiday reading or get a souvenir from the gorgeous coffee table style books on offer too. Keep up the good work Juanita and long live books!

One of the most beautiful, quirkiest and better-curated bookstores I've ever been to in the whole world. This is quite simply Mérida's best spot to pick-up a quick read. Juanita, the owner, is attentive and helpful. PLEASE do yourself a favor and visit BTL regardless of language.

If Michelin rated bookstores Berween The Lines would capture a Five Star rating hands down. This little gem is a hidden treasure in the heart of Centro. What ever genre is your choice for reading, no dobut you will find it here. From best sellers to biographies, cookbooks, architecture, travel, and romancec, you won't be disappointed. And if it's mystery you desire, the selections will fill your days and nights with suspense and even a few laughs. Be sure to ask Juanita what's new. She's always ready to assist with suggestions. But be sure to take your time to brouse. As an author, I can guarantee you will not leave enpty handed.

An absolute delight here in the heart of centro Merida...wonderful customer service, always a smile on the face of Juanita (the owner). We are ecstatic to find this bookstore and all the little "extras" inside! We will be here OFTEN!

This is a GREAT little bookstore in a prime location in Merida's centro historico. Full of attractively arranged displays and carefully and loving selected tomes covering all sorts of genres, owner Juanita has created a perfect literary space in a cozy and welcoming space.
In addition, there are the coolest reading glasses, greeting cards, and more. A fantastic addition to Merida's retail scene. Go today!

When my friend and I visited Between the Lines earlier this week, I told her after we left, "That's exactly the kind of store I want to have when I grow up." Granted, I'm already grown up, but dreams are dreams regardless. Everything that is offered in this store serves a purpose, whether it's educational or literary or quirky or somewhere in between- In any event that I end up in Mérida again, I will absolutely be visiting this shoppe. My initial purpose upon being at this store was to find a book that can further my understanding of the Mayan ruins that I had been visiting the few days prior - voila! "Maya Ruins Revisted" was exactly what I needed, and Juanita Stein (the owner) knew everything I needed just by asking a few questions. Additionally, there are an assortment of items that Juanita has imported from other countries, for example a hand fan that I also needed- as well as a custom leather case for it that was handmade by artisans presumably in the region.
If you're in Mérida and looking for books, cards, fans... anything of use that is unique, definitely visit Between the Lines. And even if you're not in Mérida but within driving distance, definitely visit as well. The store is a gem, and it was my favorite shopping experience during my week of traveling.

Don't worry about running out of English reading material if you visit Merida. What a great place to while away a couple of hours browsing books in English, cards and diaries and anything that is paper rather than digital. Apart from having a broad selection of novels, biographies, non-fiction and travel reference books, BTL keeps its inventory up to date, constantly acquiring new books.
This cozy bookstore is crowned by its signature centrepiece of 5 Mexican hanging star lights from Jalisco, which adds charm and atmosphere. Next door is a superb little cafe, the Voltacafe, which offers delicious coffee and light meals. I recommend a visit to Between the Lines followed by lunch or a coffee at the neighbouring Voltacafe.
