For anyone with any interest in art, history or culture, a visit here is a must. It’s like visiting an old friend after they’ve had a makeover. Delightful?

The lady was very welcoming and gave us some information about the house and new addition to the museum. A small unique museum. Hard to believe this was a country home for the family. A pretty garden outside , behind a wall the loud dual carriage way roars .

A visit to Hogarth’s home can easily combined with one to Chiswick House. The accessible area of the building is limited, but highly evocative of Hogarth’s time, with appropriate illustrations. There are also newly added facilities fir schools, business hire etc. And it’s free!

Though the house is now hemmed in by the M4, offices & housing, the restoration of cosy, old Chiswick is still around. Great preservation works inside & out, with loads of family history. There’s currently an exhibition of some of Paula Rego’s work, too (a long-standing Hogarth admirer) inspired by the great man’ etchings

The house, whilst small and the extension and garden closed due to Covid, my friend and I found the paintings and their descriptions really interesting and educational. The sparse furniture was beautiful. It would have been 5 star but the two staff were totally disinterested to the point of rudeness.

Turnham Green nearest station and a 10 minute walk from there.(Gunnersbury Overground not far). They are building an education centre at the moment in the garden. A smallish house , when indoorswhere he lived with his family, a country escape from London at the time. We visited after seeing an excellent Hogarth exhibition at the wonderful John Soane Museum in Lincolns Inn Fields.(finishes January 2020) Al his work is worth seeing. He was a good person who did his best in all his endeavours and his politics aimed at improving the lot of the poor and showing the class system for what it was. The pub on the roundabout presented a wonderful Sunday lunch the day we were there, it has a great open fire , just the ambience needed after walking your legs off. Its free and interesting, giving insight into the family man as well as a great artist, satirist and commentator of his time.

Hardly out of town by today’s standards but well worth a visit as it is free to all - check opening days and times as these can vary. You are able to access the ground and first floors and nearly everything is displayed on the walls with clear descriptions of what they are. This includes most of his famous sets of illustrations such as The Rakes Progress, Marriage a la Mode, Gin Lane, etc. with associated descriptions so you don’t overlook the detail or fail to understand the importance of certain items. Allow at least an hour to go around to read all the labels.

One of my favourite places in London. Hogarth, whose grave you can find in the local cemetery, owned this house, and it is set up to present the period he lived in and also his work. Literally, as if time stopped. But this house is also a place where Virginia Wolf and her husband sent some of their time.

This free attraction is well-curated and full of interest whether or not you like Hogarth. It's nicely presented and welcoming. It has to be though because of its awful location on the shoulder of the Hogarth Roundabout with its heavy traffic at all times of the day/week.
The staff are friendly and welcoming. The house itself is about a 20 minute walk from Chiswick station and you may find the air quality too much to take if you have asthma or a chest complaint. I don't suffer from either but I found myself choking on the walk back to the railway station.
