We can really recommend Plas Newydd for a visit. We did not go to the tea room, or stroll down to the river, but enjoyed the garden, views, and fully explored the house. The carvings as one enters, both inside and out, are quite stunning. The house's most interesting history, and the items on display throughout, are all detailed in a free brochure, and an excellent audio guide. My wife was happy with the brochure; I loved listening to the audio guide!

The staff were splendid - so enthusiastic, cheerful, friendly and helpful. We visited on a showery, quite overcast day - so perhaps not seeing the house and grounds in their "best light" - and yet we loved it.

Unreservedly recommended.

Nice house and grounds. Loved the remote guided tour option too. Spectacular internal wood carvings to see. Nice grounds to walk round and have a picnic it visit the cafe.

My daughter (26) and I chanced upon this lovely place, as another trip we had planned had not gone according to plan.

If you find yourself, as we did, in Llangollen do visit this lovely spot. The house is extraordinary, as is the story of the two women behind its creation.

The audio guide is really helpful. It's an amazing place and well worth the visit.

The staff were great, very welcoming and informative. The tea rooms are a must!

I have one observation and that is that a more extensive range of souvenirs would be a major plus point. Such an inspiring house could maybe house a gift shop with, perhaps, locally designed and made objects to buy as a memento of a very special place.

A little out of the way from the centre of Llangollen is this sumptuous manor house, once owned by the Marquesses of Anglesey. Some parts still date back to the fifteenth century, but the current neo-Gothic building is from the eighteenth century. The house, however, is famous for being the residence of two Irish ladies, Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby (the ladies of Llangollen), who settled here in the late eighteenth century to the great scandal of society at the time that did not accept the cohabitation of two women. Over time, however, they became accepted and the house was visited by numerous famous people of the time such as William Wordsworth, Sir Walter Scott and the Duke of Wellington. Both the gardens, which are free to access, and the three-storey house are impeccably maintained. The interior, in my opinion, is a bit kitsch, but the pieces are all authentic with very interesting explanatory panels. To appreciate the cathedral windows and some rooms such as the music room. Behind the villa a path through the woods descends to the stream below.

Truly, a stunning place to visit!

As I am registered disabled we managed to get on a buggy to access everywhere we wanted to go.

We were really looking forward to this. Even cut short a canal boat trip over the Aqueduct to visit here. Checked before hand to ask about accessibility re a wheelchair. Got there. Cold and wet weather. Paid for our tickets, headed for the house and...they'd just laid fresh gravel and the wheelchair started sinking. We managed about a metre before realising we had no chance of getting there and every chance of permanently damaging the wheelchair (and they are NOT cheap).

So, I'm sure it's gorgeous, but if you have ANY mobility issue (or have a pram/buggy) don't bother. It will (apparently) compact down. Eventually. Sad we live the other side of the country, isn't it????

The grounds at Plas Newydd are free and well worth a visit. There’s some lovely walks along the stream and different paths in the valley as well as lawned areas to enjoy. Without paying for a ticket, the house can only be viewed from the outside but you can still see the carving used to decorate the house on the front porch and around the outside windows. It is worth paying the entrance fee to see the inside of the house and access the history of the place as it is quite unusual and different to anything else I have seen elsewhere. There is a café on site which is in a good location and has a reasonably priced menu but I have so say, we were a bit put off by the way the staff fawned over the cat that was there and the way they kept petting it and picking it up.

It's a Jewelry Box of a house. Filled with intricately carved walls and ceilings. It feels like walking into a dolls house and a bit eerie, like the women are still there somewhere... Its also amazing how smaller people were in the 1700 and 1800's. I loved it!

Visited whilst on holiday, nice little walk from the centre of town to the house, you can drive up if you want, plenty of parking.
Lovely gardens to walk around before or after visiting the house. The gentleman on the door of the house was really on the money, full of information and so helpful, you must read all the info whilst in the house to get the full story on the 2 ladies which was so interesting. The wood carving inside is out of this world, as good as anywhere, a great afternoon spent in a lovely house.

Fantastic experience. The house was wonderful and the story of the two ladies inspiring. Even revisited the next day with a picnic and in my top hat for a photo opportunity. Will revisit and have all my family and friends about my experience.
