I have never been to the area before but I was surprised to see how many different things there are to do within the Forest of Dean and the surrounding area.
Of course the best thing you can do is just be in the woods and enjoy the wonderful nature.
I was there in the summer and the colours were vibrant with the trees and shrubs in full bloom. I would like to come back at a different time of the year and see how different it is.
Definitely going to come back!

This is a fantastic place to visit, lots of walking trails and cycling tracks. We visited canop pond this week it's stunning. Lots wildlife, a picnic area, on weekends there is a lady selling hot and cold food. There are cycling tracks from one pond to the other. We come here often it's so tranquil. There are feeding tables for birds in fact the one was falling apart so my husband put a new top on it. There is a petition on line if anyone reading this would sign it as they are trying to build on it ,there is an uproar from the locals. The site of beauty need to be saved.

Great walks. Seems to be quite difficult to navigate though as there are many mining/logging roads that don’t appear on maps and don’t always go the way you want. Seems to be lots of different coloured arrow type signs that don’t mean anything unless you’re “in the know”. I found my way by zig zagging in the direction I wanted to go.

Such a lovely quiet part of the countryside. Perfect waking up to the birds singing. Our lodge was ideal and well equipped in a perfect spot. Plenty of walks and places to visit. Definitely recommend a visit there.

Fantastic venue. We stayed in one of the treehouse lodges and it was absolutely stunning. Everything we needed for my mates stag do and a HUGE hot tub that easily fit all 8 of us in! The team were Fanta during our stay and gave us plenty of advice on what we could do in the area. Archery was one of the highlights and the e instructor was very patient was some of our cheeky friends! We will definitely be back for sure. Just perfect!!!

Everyone should go here once. The autumn colours are magical and the whole area has a sense of mystery.

I really enjoyed my walk in the forest and would recommend the area to others. I thought the walk was quite diverse really. I started at Christchurch where there're some nice-looking log cabins - that I didn't stay in, as well as a café, toilets, etc. I walked to Symonds Yat along a lovely section of very colourful and leafy waymarked paths. It was a bit foggy at Symonds Yat but, in the end, I didn't mind - I still had a good time. There's again a café, toilets, etc. there. The walk down to the river was quite steep and a bit slippery. I then walked along the river and across Biblins Bridge. There's a youth campsite there that looks kind of retro if that's the right word. There's also a toilet there. I then carried on and went up to King Arthur's Cave. This wasn't marked and it took me some time to find. It seems some trees have fallen so it's not very clear. I came across a local who directed me. As he said, they're just "holes in a cave", but it was kind of satisfying to reach them. The way back to Christchurch was mostly gravel paths. It looks like cycling is also an option and I saw some water sports on the river. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Hi, I was wondering if the bluebells are generally out late April?
Escrita el 4 de enero de 2020
It varies from year to year, but normally a little later than that, around mid-may, is the best time to see them.

The Sculpture trail, at Beechenhurst, is a great walk for kids. It's quite long, but there are short cuts back to the lodge if the children get tired. A map/guide can be bought from the café.
Or RSPB Nagshead at Parkend is a good choice too. Two simple circular walks, so you won't need a map. On their website there's an illustrated list of birds that can be seen there - you could print it off and take it with you for the kids to tick off those they spot.

I'm looking for a place to stay in a forest, like wooden house. I wanna feel close to the nature and see beautiful landscapes. Anyone help me?

Whitemead Park, in Parkend, have some new Glamping huts which are, apparently, very good.

There are some woodland car parks that charge in the forest of dean but plenty that don't. You must have chosen one of the hot spots. Speculation, New Fancy View, Linear Park, Cannop Ponds, Speech House Arboretum and many many more are all free! Once you park - free to roam!

Hi
We are visiting next weekend and we love walking. Is there anywhere we can buy a map from locally (that perhaps has pre-marked walks all ready on the map), this would just help us not get lost!!
Thanks in advance
Kate
