We have today returned from a very pleasant afternoon at our local Museum. We were greeted by friendly staff on entry who told us where to find the exhibits. We had children with us and she particularly mentioned the Julia Donald exhibition and Claras Cottage. There was also a toy area for the children to keep them amused. The cafe was perfectly adequate and clean and offered the usual snacks - toasties, sandwiches and a lovely selection of cakes and sweet offerings as well as a good selection of hot and cold drinks. It was a lovely atmosphere and I would certainly recommend a visit - ideal if you are looking for somewhere to visit on a winters afternoon.

The museum is situated centrally in Weston super Mare and is just under half a mile from the railway station on foot.

It is housed in a modern building over two floors. A lift is available for those with mobility issues.

The museum traces the history of the town from ancient times to current day.

There are many fossils and local natural history exhibits on show.

I liked the local art particularly those which featured nearby island Steep Holm.

Both World Wars are portrayed and the town was subject to heavy bombing in June 1942 when over 100 civilians lost their lives.

There is an interesting current exhibition ruining until 13 April 2024 called “Adventures in Time and Space. 60 Years of Doctor Who Art”.

This is a fascinating exhibition tracing Doctor Who over the years from William Hartnell to Ncuti Gatwa.

There is also a decent cafe on site providing a range of beverages and snacks.

Admission is free and the museum is closed to n Sunday and Monday.

I had some spare time in Weston so used my phone to find the museum. It's a bit off the beaten but we'll worth the effort. It's more modern, larger and better than I'd expected. Upstairs the new displays tell the story of the area . Downstairs there's a cafe, temporary display area and access to Clara's cottage. Friendly and enthusiastic staff.

We came to see the Dr Who exhibition - we are great fans of the BBC programme ever since it began in the early 50s. The display covered every actor who has played the part of Dr Who through the years. My favourite was always Tom Baker with his very long scarf! There is a Cyberman guarding the entrance - we had our photos taken with it! Weston Museum also has a very nice cafe where we had lunch - toasted panini, salad and crisps. Lovely cups of tea, too! The exhibition is on until lqte January 2024. Go see it!

Lovely little museum, with lots to see. Great atmosphere and plenty of visitors. People seemed to meet there to do crafts etc or just have food and drink. We had a lovely cup of coffee on arrival. looked around and then stayed for lunch. The best panini I have ever had, light and crispy. I asked about it and was told that everything is sourced locally. The staff are so friendly and helpful.

Last week, I was swinging my cat around and sprained my shoulder. I ended up popping into A&E and had to miss a days work waitressing. This meant, however, that I now had a free day to do non arm-related activities. I elected to go to Weston Museum, and since I was on my own nobody discouraged me from doing so.

Upon arrival, I was greeted with friendly smiles and an enticing declaration of 'free entry' which is always bloody marvellous for a student. The lovely ladies took very good care of me as I plonked myself down in "Claras Café" for a grand bowl of Carrot & Coriander soup with bread, as they very kindly buttered it for me once they realised I was all slung-up. They also brought me over some nice cool water and asked if I doing okay with my arm & a delicious 60p babycino. I did not catch their names but they were all wonderful.

After finishing up my chapter of the very cheery Bell Jar & scraping the remains of my soup with some effort, I progressed through the museum itself to find such delights. I won't spoil them all for you, however I will say that Clara's Cottage (not to be confused with her café) is not to be missed- very homely and interesting. There is also an excellent laughing doll on the first floor which is incredibly amusing when fed 20p.

Overall, my terrible start to the day was made infinitely better by my little (free- aside from soup which was £4.50 and great temperature... god that was good soup) trip to Weston Museum. It was my first time re-visiting since I was a small girl, and not much has changed- which is everything you'd hope for in a museum.
