Did the full hike one morning, made it towards the top of the ridge but didn’t go to the botanical gardens. You see a number of different environments on the trail, recommend having a trail app as there are parts you can get off the trail. Only saw 3 other groups through the entire hike. Great workout, but there is no amazing view at the top which was a bit of bummer.

My wife and I walked the trail today and enjoyed it. I’m nearly 70 and in pretty good shape and made it just fine. I would classify it as moderately difficult. Some might object to the lack of panoramic views and it being pretty muddy at the top. We liked the great variety of eco-systems and the tree canopy over most of the trail. There is a very nice view from the lookout at the top. From there, many will want to turn back,. If you keep going it gets a little slippery and you end up at the Plantation Estates back gate and have to go back out the way you came. The rain forest at the top is quite beautiful. Funny that some complain about the mud. It’s a rain forest!

This is a beautiful hike for experienced hikers. Park at the Kapalua driving range to save you 2 miles round trip. It’s a little challenging to find the trail in the beginning, but then it’s easy to stay on the trail. We went 4.5 miles in and reached the gate and turned around. You are hiking high above Kapalua and will hit big rain and hike in mud. I suggest bringing a poncho, food and water. Very beautiful and worth it.

I’d definitely recommend this trail if staying in west Maui. It is not really to overgrown like some people said, just some tall grass at the start then it opens up. As far as the mud- you are in hawaii, hiking in a rainforest- don’t wear shiny white shoes and you will be okay. Definitely hike past the reservoir and you will see lots of wild pineapples growing everywhere. There is a pine forest after that which is pretty cool to see and at one point there is an old dozer with a whole tree grown over it! I turned around after the gate due to a time crunch but would keep going if I could. Not much views since the vegetation is dense but this hike is worthwhile due to the cool vegetation you will see.

This trail is a 14-mile (one-way) trek that is poorly marked. Much of the trail is overgrown (at least 1.5 miles in...we turned around after that), but I wouldn't classify it as difficult.

Avoid this trail and do a more scenic one. What a bore.

Tried going on the Mahana Ridge Trail inspite of the reviews and turned back after 0.5 miles. The biggest downer for us was the overgrowth on the trail path.

I would recommend the Lahaina-Pali Trail instead.

This hike is very long and moderately difficult. A crew was clearing the trail today so it's easy to get through. We went all the way to Pu'u Ka'eo look out. Not much of view considering the 3 hrs spent on the trail.
At certain points it is not well marked. Never saw an "arboretum" but followed all the signs to the end!!
Hike is shady and takes you up into the mountains. It's pretty, lots of trees and birds.
Took us about 5 hours up and back.

Took the hike today housing all trails guide. Hike is not too difficult as I am a mid 60s person who is semi fit and I did not fi d it hard. But it ended prematurely or the signage was poor. A nice 2 hour outing in shaded areas.

Walk along the cliff and hear the ocean roar. See for miles including several of the other islands. Access beaches once you’ve figured out how to access the trail.

We walked through ocre coloured ground, an old pine apple plantation, Jurassic park type plants, found wild passion fruit, wild pig tracks - it was just amazing. We did about 13 miles round trip - bring water, it’s warm in some places and cool in others with the tree shade. I’d highly recommend this hike for many reasons!
