I visited the place 25 years ago when the road to Santa Ana was not paved, there was no electricity in the seaside town and no regular service to the island. It still feels the same after all the years. Just a few more tourist to this relatively ubdiscovered place.

it is hot when we went here and it is not so friendly on the skin but the place is super amazing. It is definitely unique and something that you haven't seen before.

Short hike. Nice view at the top . Lighthouse was a nice icing in a cake so to speak. Looks like the compound was an old mission. Well built but deserted

This is one of the nice place in the hole of Cagayan. You have to go to the old lighthouse on top of the mountain. Very very nice view from there. You have to take a boat in Barangay San Vicente to go there. It looks like batanes.

It was worth the trip and it is good that the community is together in preserving the island and its beauty. Best to go to cape engaño early morningas the waves are gentler. The mangrove was beautiful and so are the other places of interests. We ate lunch there which was 400 per person. It was simple and filling..we had crabs, fish, grilled pork.
Just use the life vests in the boat if u will snorkle because they will offer u to rent if there are vests in the boat already. U still need to get a guide if u want to snorkle. I dont get this...the area to snorkle is not that big and we were not really going to do it long. We just wanted to see what is there. So after lunch we hired a guide and went back to boat and rode for about 5 mins...we snorkeñled for ten to fifteen mins because the waves chopoy and cant see anything much because of strong current. We still had to bring the guide back to shore. They could have just told us that it will just be waste of time and money.
The trek to waterfalls was worth it..the trees were beautiful and the trek was calming. The falls is not magnificent but still good to do this.

Palaui is an untouched paradise. You only have 2 options for accomodation on punta verde a homestay or the survivor camp I highly recommend the survivor camp because the locals on the island share the profit that the camp will get from the accomodations.

If you're planning to visit Palaui Island better be in summer or somewhat a good weather. People in the island are hospitable. Downside, no electricity at night and solar power during daytime so get your gadgets charged up before going there. It is also a good idea to bring anti mosquito lotion or if you're hardcore type bring the anti mosquito spray (baygon) cause they are there waiting for you. Food is Php.250 per head from where we stayed. Accomodation is Php.1200 per night or if you want, camping tent for Php. 200 per night. Tour package will be on the port before you ride a boat to palaui island. For those who have private car/s, parking is within the port but bear in mind that this parking area is not guaranteed safe! I got a long scratch line on the side when we came back.

are there lodges or inns in Nangaramoan? if you stay there, are there boats there that would take you to Palaui for island hopping or do you have to travel back to the port area?
Escrita el 12 de noviembre de 2016
Yes there handful accommodations in Nangaramoan. I would recommend Marpe as the place is just new and clean however a room rate is a little bit higher compared with a nearby lodge. No Tv but some has karaoke like Marpe. You can find aircon or non aircon lodges. But be ready to bring food for your overnite stay in the island as food cooked in a near restaurant is pricey.
Yes boat from Nangaramoan can bring you to palaui and other island.? No need to go to the port area for the tour. Coordinate with boat association representative in the area. Leave early as it can get crowded in palaui thus you may be able to take good pictures because of the crowd.

Hello Derfoj,
Your review on Palaui gave me goosebumps and excitement and urge to visit the island sometime this year. I've been travelling (with colleagues) but never had travelled alone. I want to start a backpacker-type solo traveler. Is it recommended to do Palaui? Do you have contacts, i.e., guides from the area? Have you tried trekking there? How was the trail? Will it be manageable to DIY travel there? Apologies for the loads of questions posted. I'm just curios at the same time excited.
Thanks & regards,
Edimar

How to get to the site?
Is there a nice and pleasant and comfortable
hotel on site ? If none , where is the nearest city or town where we can stay
How far is Sta Ana Cagayan to the island?
How far is Sta Ana to Tuguegarao?
Is it good road from Tuguegarao to Pagudpud? How many hours travel?
