Absolutely the best time. Facility extremely efficient, friendly and helpful. We drove 2 1/2 hours to get there and it was well worth the trip. We loved every moment of drifting down the river with the beautiful scenery. The highlight was watching the wild horses come within 20 feet of you to eat and drink. Very relaxing. At times there were small rapids making us laugh like children again. All of the guests on the river were super nice, which made the trip even better. This is a definite MUST DO!

A hidden gem out in the desert. A wonderful place to be, the Salt on a hot day. Enjoy the cool waters and see the wild horses, the Mustangs as they wander the desert and the river banks.

Beautiful scenery, close enough to Phoenix to do a short loop. Lots of places to stop for photos, walks, hikes. The desert plants are so green right now!

The salt river is a great place to enjoy the desert. We got to see to small herds of wild horses. There is a picnic area at Coon Bluff along with camping. There are also restrooms there. Lots of area to walk and hike looking for the horses or just enjoy the river and beautiful scenery.

Watch out for exit 4 especially ladies. The water flows fast. I was in the middle of the river struggling to paddle left towards exit. I missed the exit , i tried to stand up, let go of my tube, the river pulled me away from the exit, i couldn't hold on to the rocks, people were watching not willing to help.
Luckily one guy came towards me and helped me stand in the water and reach the shore.
If not for him saving me at that point, i would have been pulled by the river, and wait for a calm spot to swim and reach shore and walk long way back to the exit.
Get out of the exit as early as possible. Even though the sign says this is not an exit. Why do they keep this is not an exit sign, right next to the exit sign. Please be serious manager

Went to Phon Sutton parking area walked a while along the river. Saw the wild horses grazing on the river. Lots of kayaks swimmers. Peaceful beautiful. Litter along the way was bothersome in this beautiful area. Definitely worth the visit. Bring bathing suit towel. Restroom in parking area

The Salt River is a large river in Arizona that stretches through Maricopa and Gila county. It is a popular location to visit for many locals looking to cool off during the summer months. People generally will utilize the river and surrounding areas for tubing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and camping. Considering how rare it is to find large bodies of water here, it is also common to find many animals nearby. Because of the water supply and local vegetation this is by far one of the best places to spot wild horses. Oftentimes during the early mornings and evenings you will see herds of horses grazing along the riverbed and wading through the river. There are also nearby lakes that also offer desert landscapes and more opportunities for socializing and boating as well. Along the way via Bush Highway you can also find several trails to hike and use for OHVs or mountain biking with views of the Red Mountains and Four Peaks in the distance. There are several places to stop along the way that are free as well as designated recreation areas but be aware of costs associated with day-use permits. Overall, this is a great place to come by and cool off or just admire the stark contrast of water with the surrounding desert landscape!

The river and dessert scenery are beautiful. Easy to walk because there’s no underbrush. Took a while, but we found the wild mustangs grazing. Remember to buy your park pass before you leave the city!

We love to go visit at Coon Bluff, some cool quick hikes next to the river, plenty of places to cross or play.

I am wanting to fish the salt river. I am wondering if there is a stamp I need for my year fishing license to fish.

I's the a hiking path to the bluff at Coon's Bluff? We saw a narrow ridge on the outside last year but turned back, too scary!

I want to take close up photos of the Salt River wild horses. Where is the best place to find them in October. Do you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to where the horses are?
What are the closest and least expensive places to stay that are by the wild horses.
Do I need a guide to find the wild horses.
Any suggestions and would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions on who to call about finding and photographing the Salt River wild horses please pass them on to me.
I am 71 years old and can hike a couple of miles, but 4 or 5 miles would be a problem.
Thank you in advance
Jerry

Do you think the government will succeed in rounding up the Salt River Wild Horses? Is there anything we can do to stop it?
