This is a kind of legendary baseball field where Major Leaguers once stopped during Spring Training. Built by a local rancher who loved baseball, Kokernot, the field has been home to the Cowboys since the 1940's. It was patterned after Wrigley Field and the outfield wall is made of area stone. We were able to catch glimpses of it from Hancock Hill hiking back from the Desk.

Kokernot Field is described by Sports Illustrated as “Best Little Baseball Field in Texas (or anywhere else).” The views from the stands are excellent with the mountains in the background. The walls could use a new coat of paint, but the historical background with Mickey Mantle and Satchel Paige playing there makes it look vintage instead of rundown.

History washes over you as you enjoy watching baseball in this historic facility which is home to the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League of Professional Baseball and Sul Ross University. Not new and modern or bright and glitzy but you won’t find a better baseball atmosphere. Kokernot Field is as warm and welcoming as the people of Alpine!

We attended a Raptor Show here and it was very good and informative. The speaker brought out several live hawks, falcons, owls, eagles, and vultures which were untethered and flew through the audience, allowing us to experience these amazing birds first hand. The staff was very professional and we learned a lot about these amazing creatures.

We watched the Cowboys play, and we enjoyed the lively fans and some good old fashioned baseball. The atmosphere was super chill, and the fans were engaged.

Vi var heldige og fangede en high school baseballkamp på Kokernot Field. Selve kampen var ikke ret spændende, men atmosfæren og selv stadion var helt i top. Fed oplevelse :)

Went to Kokernut field to check out a little bit of baseball history (Satchel Paige pitched here). The stadium is still in use by the local college and high school teams. It's a nice field and happy we stopped by to check out the field.

We caught a double header between the Alpine Cowboys and Trinidad Triggers recently.
$6 got us a ticket for BOTH games. $2 sodas/waters and a mountain of Brisket Nachos for $5.
Take that, MLB.
You're right up close to the action and can feel the energy of the crowd as you take in the game.

This ballpark has a big history in baseball. I competed on this field for 12 yrs as an Alpine International and an Alpine A. A men's teams that competed in the Far West Texas Eastern New Mexico Oldtimers League. Many great memories as a player and coach, memories that i will treasure as long as i live. A must see for all ages.... Stop by the Big Bend Museum and ask about the rich tradition of baseball and ballplayers that have stepped on this field.... Awesome!!!!

Thank you Mr Kokernot for building this beautiful baseball park! And thank you to his family for keeping it alive! We enjoyed visiting and watch Sul Ross University play.
