We have been to this restaurant every time we go to Megargel since it opened. We go there at least every month since we have property close by. Everything we have tried is fantastic. I attached a couple of photos. The burgers are amazing, they serve breakfast all day every day. (I want to try the divorced eggs) Our favorites are the fried fish and hamburger steak. The chicken fried steak is amazing our granddaughter loved it. My dad said it was the best burger he ever had. We have never had anything we did not like. Good sweet tea and good service the place is clean and the staff very friendly. During lent they may run out of fish because it is so popular. But the shrimp fried or blackened is a good option. We are headed there this weekend.

Spend a day with Teri you’ll be rewarded in so many ways. Not only does she give you an excellent overview before going into the field; she also will spend extra time to help you get situated and will help identify your finds.
We decided to go on two trips with her (Needle Peak and South Larremore Ranch). Both are very different terrain and offer different finds. Being a rock hound, I jumped at the chance to check out both of these private lands.
Our three year old daughter, who also loves rocks in general, had a great time as well. Teri went out of her way to make sure she had fun and found some great treasures.
If you want to add a different kind of excursion to your Big Bend trip, definitely check out Teri’s website to see when her next trip will take place.

I am not big on writing reviews so I will just put that out there at the start. I only write reviews when I believe I have had an experience that few can offer, or a guide that really is something special.
When I was in my 20's I climbed every peak in the National Park. I thought my acumen and knowledge of the area was pretty solid. Terri is smarter than me!
As an avid collector of agate with cabbing experience I thought I had a good bead on what would cut well. Terri knows better than I.
You get the picture. Terri is as good as it gets. She is kind, nice, and a true pleasure to have as a guide.

Just spent a wonderful time rock hunting. Teri takes groups to Ranches around the Big Bend for guided rock hunts. Great fun for all- experienced rock hounds and newbies. She is very knowledgeable and experienced. Highly recommend this!

Access to private ranches and Teri's knowledge of the local geology makes for a topnotch rockhounding experience. I will be back...

Been watching Teri Smith's adventures for over a year. We finally synch our calendar for Walker Ranch. Teri was very helpful. Led us first timers to the site, fully explained the terrain and what to find at different elevations. Look, golden eggs aren't found on every step. We worked for six hours and collected a 5 gallon bucket of some fine west Texas agate that fits our saw. We will definitely go again. Suitable for young or old, families, and good opportunities for disabled. Am I sore and tired, absolutely. Satisfied, absolutely. You also can't beat the stars at night with no moon.

I've been on three separate rock hunts with Teri (South Larramore and Singleton Ranches, and East Needle Peak), and I'm quite surprised and dissapointed at those who give her less than an excellent rating! Teri has always been very hospitable and will bend over backwards trying to make things right. And, all at no charge for her services. She cannot help it if a ranch or landowner suddenly changes their mind about sponsoring a hunt. And, from what I've read, most complainers are the ones at fault themselves, for not reading their email. C'mon folks .... Teri is the real deal in West Texas rock hunts! And, before you depart, please leave a donation to help defray her costs, for hauling our butts all across the Big Bend region!

We went with Teri this past Sunday on her guided rock hunt to the S. Larremore Ranch. Teri went over visual characteristic of what to look for and her knowledge was very helpful! For my first adult trip to West Texas, it couldn't have been any better! Teri was helpful to find the correct things I was looking for on this trip. I feel grateful there are people in the world that dedicate their lives to what Teri does. There aren't very many of them left. Thank you for the great experience Teri! I will see you this fall for another round!

I traveled all the way from Albuquerque to Alpine for the third day of the hunt on the Walker Ranch only to be told the night before the rock hunt on what, to me, is a legendary rockhounding location, that the trip had been called off "at the last minute." I had other commitments that only allowed me to participate in the last day of three, but I thought the trip still worthwhile because of significance of the opportunity. Maybe I should have called to verify that the trip was still a go. I had communicated via email and mailed my fee in advance, so an email notification of the cancelation seems to me to have been in order. It would have saved me considerable expense, and a very considerable waste of my valuable time.

I understand your disappointment. But I did send a cancellation email on February 12. And from February 12th on I was working on gaining access to an alternate ranch with the same type and quantity of material as the Walker. I'm sorry that you didn't get the email cancellation notice, but two other members of the Los Alamos club did get it.
I also had another rockhunt scheduled for that day, so it's not as if I left you without a "legendary rockhounding location" to go to. We went to the Stillwell Ranch, to some areas that are quite a ways back in and not hunted by many rockhounds. It would have been worth your valuable time!
I've learned from this experience, and you and everyone else will receive duplicate emails if a situation like this ever happens again. But, most importantly, I work to ensure that a situation like this doesn't happen again. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to get these rockhunts to happen, and only this once in the past 500 field trips has one been cancelled (except for those cancelled because no one signed up).
Did you stay at the Antelope Lodge? If so, I'll gladly refund the cost of your room.
While perhaps it may sound like an excuse to you, please remember that I do not get paid for leading field trips, and that It's a one-person, part-time effort. I apologize again for not sending a duplicate email, and ask that you give my field trips another try.

I've been out with Teri twice in the last year and both times it was terrific. I've visited 4 different ranches and had a unique experience with each one. Teri does her research and knows just where to go for different agates as well as other minerals found out there. She makes sure everyone has a great time, and I can't imagine a better guide. I was a rockhunting newbie my first time out and I am now completely hooked! Come out to Alpine, enjoy the big skies, the beautiful landscape, all the nature, and of course the amazing agates- and do it with Teri Smith!

Thanks,

Hi! If you're staying in Alpine, you'll meet me at the Antelope Lodge, 2310 W. Highway 90, Alpine, at 7 a.m. If you're staying in Terlingua or Big Bend National Park, we can make arrangements for you to meet me down there. Total cost would be $96 ($80 for 2 people to attend the rockhunt and $16 for a dual membership in the Rollin' Rock Club) Send me an email if you wish to sign up.

Which tour do you recommend for someone with limited walking abilities?
Escrita el 28 de septiembre de 2015
Hi! The Ritchie Ranch is a great location for people with limited walking abilities, as is the Walker Ranch. In both cases, you can park your car and hunt right there, and even hunt sitting in a chair!. Which one you choose might depend upon how serious you are about collecting agate, since the prices are quite different: Ritchie Ranch is $10 entrance fee and $1 per lb. of agate, and the Walker is a flat fee of $75 per day, with discounts for multiple day hunts.
