Hawks Nest is a beautiful State Park. The trails are well marked and the park and facilities are very clean. Beautiful outlook. Did the Jet Boat trip booked through the Lodge.

If you are visiting the New River National Park area you should take some time to visit the beautiful West Virginia State Parks that surround the area. One of these is Hawks Neat State Park high above the New River. Outstanding views at overlooks at upper and lower park areas. One can hike or drive to the river level. Currently the cable cars ride to the river is not operational. The main picnic area is at the lower park. It is somewhat limited in size. There are some shelters. By far the best hiking trail is the Cliffside Trail connecting the Midland picnic shelter near the lodge to the lower picnic area. It is rocky and moderate to strenuous in difficulty. There are some steep drop offs. Exercise caution. It is not a loop trail. Return to your car will be via the Midland Road ( Rt. 60). Watch for traffic. Allow at least two hours for this hike, possibly more if done at a leisurely pace.

Went for a day trip from Fayetteville with the kids and were able to do a couple of the shorter hikes from the visitor center the Lodge gift shop and surround the grounds we will maintained. The staff is friendly and courteous. The tram will be up and running in the next calendar year, I was told it has been down for three years, have restaurant on premises, clean and close to highly recommend

We walked down the trailhead from the top, circled around the base and came up the gravel road. We wish we had been told it would have been far easier to take the road down and park at the bottom, then walk the trail up and the steep gravel road down. But it was a wonderful 4 mile hike.

Beautiful views at Hawk’s Nest State Park.
Overlooks are easy to get to and are well marked. There is ample parking. Cute gift shop with friendly staff. We did not stay in the park and just visited for the day, but felt we were still able to appreciate what the park had to offer

It's nice and very well kept. That said, if you have a pet, they will stick you in a tiny hole of a room. They are NOT pet friendly no matter what their ad says. We had a suite reserved (canyon view), until they said it wasn't a pet friendly room. Then we had to settle for one of their two pet friendly rooms. Mind my gf grew up in Hawks Nest and came to celebrate her childhood memories, and we were forced into that tiny micro-room. Shame on Hawks Nest State Park! They charge a pet fee, which means the room is irrelevant. They could have given us any room. Disappointing!

Great overlook to look down on the New River where you can see for miles. The railroad bridge over the river is a great photo or if you are lucky enough to catch the Amtrak Cardinal crossing, and even better photo. Just a short walk from the parking lot.

Very nice lodge in one of Virginia's State Parks. Booked a room with a gorge view. Room was spacious and clean. In room HVAC unit worked great. Room had a balcony overlooking the New River Gorge. Hiking in the park. Breakfast included. Staff was very friendly. Only down side is this is not a handy-cap friendly facility . Some rooms require guest to carry luggage down a couple of flights of stairs. Also, there are no automatic doors

very disappointing! We went here Monday 6/14/23 at about 12:30pm hoping to take the aerial tramway and the jet boat ride. We were told the aerial tramway had been demolished and a new one wasn't expected until 2024.
When you walk out to the viewpoint you can see whats left and that they are not even working on a replacement.
We were also told the Jet Boats were done for the day despite having a prior email from management that they run every hour rain or shine. "We close on Wednesday. We run trips 10-5 on the hour every other day. Thanks" Guess you just can't get good help these days!

Mixed feelings. Beautiful area with great vistas and some hiking. Tram ride was closed. Jet boat rides were closed. Why advertise these features and then not have them available and waste peoples time and gas. Restaurant was bare bones but the view was great.

Yes, there's only a modest fee for using the Tram. Plus at Fayetteville there is zip lining all the way across the New River Gorge at a heftier cost, about $75, I've been told.

No minimum age requirement that I can remember. We took our 3 year old and he absolutely loved it!
