Had a great time at the Chicago Air and Water show this year. Definitely want to get there early and find a spot to set up for the day. It got very crowded as the day went on. There was a great lineup, capped off with the USN Blue Angels. I can’t say enough about the Blue Angels. They never disappoint. If you are into air shows, this is one you want to see. I’m sure there are spots all along the waterfront where you are able to see the flyovers. I went right down to show center, which was super packed once the Blue Angels started. But it was worth it. I was staying in town, so when I left I walked about a mile away from the main show area, through Old Town, which was nice. Eventually Ubered back to the hotel. I don’t suggest driving anywhere near the water front.

It was an incredible experience. My favorite part was the precision and skill of the pilots, especially during the synchronized aerobatic performances.

For future travelers, my tip is to arrive early and stake out a spot on the beach or a rooftop for the best views. And be sure to stay until the end for the grand finale, it's a showstopper you won't want to miss!

Normally best weekend of the year. Weather not the best but all I can recall is first 30 mins beyond that not the best they should have just cancelled. I saw more during practice

It was a great venue. We were in a high rise with north lake views. The Canadian pilots were great, a little better than the Blue Angels. Sorry, I’m not Canadian, either.

這個芝加哥飛行表演由空軍駕駛各種戰機做出各種不同的高難度動作,在空中還會噴出不同圖案,以及從飛機彈出跳降落傘的表演。類似的表演在香港很難看到,有機會的話不用錯過。

Wow. I really did not know what to expect but we were invited to join a group to experience this.

And I am glad that we did.

We were fortunate to have a table to sit and to have beverages and food where we were. As well, we had an excellent view of the parachutists on the beach.

Just be warned, bring a hat and stay hydrated. The show can be long with stretches in between.

The day we went, it was not too crowded and security was quite high.

We left early and had to walk out if we wanted an Uber or taxi.

If you are ready to walk, sit in the sun and wait - it is worth it.

The show was amazing - and it can get loud (be prepared).

I was happy to have experienced it.

These shows are amazing. If you can invest in a VIP at the Theater on the Lake do it, otherwise We love the Oak Street Beach.

On 17th and 18th of August, 2019 we huddled into the North Avenue Beach
1600 N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60613 to witness the world's spectacular Air Show over the blue water of lake Michigan. The show started at about 10am on 17th but at 1PM on 18th due to inclement weather conditions.
We witnessed the amazing performance of RAF as well as US Navy and US Air Force, as well commercial pilots flying World War I machines. The aerial aerobatics including maneuverability, rolling, climbing, looping (even forming heart symbol with a trail of white fume from a plane's exhaust piercing the 'heart') and criss-crossing each other at supersonic speed from counter direction and a lot more amazed the spectators. The skill of the pilots commands praise in all good sense.
On 18th, we found two US Navy's helicopters (twin rotor) hovering over the blue lake creating immense turbulence in the water below. Their rotors held them steady at a particular height, about 15m off the water surface for over 5 minutes, showing their might that they can well be used in rescue operation in the sea.
This spectacular aerial display were demonstrated before the hundreds of thousands of spell-bound spectators who were privileged to enjoy this unique show at full free of cost. With thanks and regards to US AR, RAF, USA Navy and Chicago Police & Administration whose combined efforts made it possible....Professor P Chattopadhyay

The Chicago Air and Water Show is the largest FREE show of its kind in the US. It has been running for 59 years. The show can be viewed along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point. It typically occurs the third weekend in August. The show runs from 9 AM to 3 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.

The 2019 headliners include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the Royal Air Force Red Arrows.

Coverage of the show airs on WBBM Newsradio 780 and 105.9FM on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am until 3 pm. You can download a radio app to your phone and listen to the coverage while viewing the show.

Things to know: over 2 million people attend the show so if you do not like crowds come watch them practice on the Friday before the show. Also bathrooms are at a premium so plan for that in advance. We typically just walk over to see the headliner act which starts at 2 PM. The blue angels and thunderbirds alternate years and always perform last.

Traffic and parking are crazy - take public transportation (the 29 state street bus will take you to navy pier just south of the show and the 151 bus goes right along the lakefront so you can look for a spot to get off and view the show).

Parking: Avoid the crowds if you are driving, park at Millennium Park Garage. Air & Water parking is available at Millennium Garages with free shuttle to and from North Ave Beach.

Bring sunscreen, binoculars, cameras, sun glasses, swim suit, water and a blanket or chair to sit on.

Most if not all of the restaurants along the beach charge an admission charge on that day and spaces fill up fast so plan ahead if you want an up close view from the comfort of a boat or restaurant.

There are miles of free seating all along the lakefront - so you do not have to pay unless you want to.
