I am happy we decided to visit. You do not need much time to get through the entire museum. It was very informative and well put together. If you're visiting Dearborn, it is worth stopping in.

Wonderful museum with lovely exhibits and audio experiences. The extent of the Arab contributions to everything is widely explained and shown

My favorite part during this whole experience is the rich vibe and beautiful architecture that is inside the museum.

The first floor is dedicated to the contribution of Arabs in science, mathematics, architecture, music, etc. throughout history. The second floor has three section, one involving the journey of Arabs to the U.S., another involving the life of Arab Americans in the U.S., and the last involving famous Arab Americans. I found it very educational, especially the last section noting famous contributions by Arab Americans to American history and culture ranging from JFK's famous speeches to chess. I believe that, even if you are not deeply invested in Arabic culture or Arab American history, you will find this worthwhile for an admission fee of $8. Many of the stories of Arab Americans also resonate with all immigrants to the U.S.

The Arab American National Museum is a fantastic, unique experience. It offers illumination on a rich, brilliant culture that doesn't get the attention it deserves. It touches on the extensive history abroad - but focuses mostly on the Arabic diaspora in the USA, including accomplishments from well-known Americans of Arabic heritage.
Well worth a trip for locals, or anyone visiting Detroit.

This visit was a prearranged event arranged by my employer. Plenty of parking in rear of the museum. The museum staff was very friendly, museum was beautifully decorated and it was very interesting to hear first hand accounts of those immigrating to our country. We had a sampling of sweets and were taught a traditional dance and our whole group learned the steps. Staff answered all of our questions. This museum also supports and helps those in the local community that need assistance as well as hosting events such as Kids Against Hunger, which benefits children and those in need around the world. Definitely worth a visit.

The Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, is an architectural masterpiece in itself with its magnificent dome and spacious galleries and decorative artwork. At first, I mistook it for a mosque. Located at 13624 Michigan Avenue, it opened in 2005 and is the first museum in the world devoted to Arab American history and culture. It seeks to show visitors the Arab American story through a timeline of exhibits while dispelling misconceptions about Arab Americans. My wife and I aren't Arab Americans but we wanted to learn something about the people. We aren't Jews but we have sought to learn about the Holocaust. We thought we'd only spend about an hour or two in the museum. But we were fascinated by the stories and spent over three hours. The museum features three permanent exhibits. On the first floor, you learn about the contributions of the Arab civilization to science, medicine, mathematics, architecture and the decorative arts. On the second floor, you learn how prominent Arab Americans such as Ralph Nader and Helen Thomas have contributed to America. There also are stories about how Arab Americans experienced the immigration process and exhibits displaying the art of Arab American and Arab artists, including Emily Jacir, John Halaka, Mariam Ghani, Doris Bittar and Helen Zughaib. In a country as diverse as ours, we believe it is important to know and learn as much about the history and cultures of all of the peoples we come in contact with.

We spent 4+ hours at this museum. It is a building of 3 floors ( under ground, ground and upper level). We spent most our time in the upper level. There are tons of stories about Arabs- Americans that came to the USA from all the Arab countries. The ground level has a small library and souvenir shop as well. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Will come back again for sure. Highly recommended.

My brother and I were visiting Detroit this past weekend and decided to stop in at the Arab American National Museum when we were in Dearborn. While I'm glad we visited, the museum seemed pretty sparse in information and artifacts. I guess I just wanted more out of the experience? The building is beautiful, and the admission is a fair price, but there just wasn't that much there. The museum seemed mostly filled with bios of Arab Americans and their immigration stories. But it didn't really feel very personal to me. Given Dearborn and Detroit's large Arab immigrant populations, I guess I was expecting a lot of the museum. It was an okay visit, but I didn't feel like I got much out of the experience.

The museum does a great job undermining anti-Arab stereotypes, but I fear that the sort of people likely to hold those prejudices aren't likely to come. Those who do visit probably don't need to be told that "not all Arabs are Muslims" or "Arabs have made many contributions to American society" or "Arabs have diverse cultures and beliefs," but these are the main themes of the museum. Still, the goal of reducing prejudice through spreading information is a worthy one, and deserves support.
