Whale camp with Shari and Sirena was amazing, my bucket list trip and first solo travel adventure. The camp is rustic but of course they need to leave no trace in this protected reserve so everything needs to be dismantled and removed each season.
I stayed in Shari's hacienda in the courtyard first night, lovely cozy tent , for an early breakfast and start next day. About 45 min drive in a bus to the lagoon. The tent at Whale camp was clean and comfortable, with a real bed, toilets were campaloos so basic but not as bad as expected and perfectly clean.
Food was traditional, fresh and wholesome, cooked on a camp kitchen so the chef worked wonders to give everyone a varied menu. Such a lovely crew and nothing too much trouble, they even had a stock of wine and beer !
I kissed a Grey whale !! Every day whales galore and very interactive. 1 trip included in the price and an afternoon trip as extra I think $40 , everyone had extra ! ( bring cash to tip the captain)
Seeing the milky way with no light pollution, swimming in the lagoon, seeing a wild Coyote and more Grey whales than I could count, was an amazing experience I'll never forget. Heading back there next year as I left a part of my soul there.

I'm a seasoned Baja traveler been bouncing around the peninsula for over 40 years. Have stayed with Sherry many times at her little hotel always went the extra mile making us breakfast giving us information on unique places to go and things to do. Finally pulled the trigger and went to go to Guerrero negro or the whales. Arrived a day early there was a cancellation I got on a boat don't count on that. Ended up doing three days on the water. Was very impressed had a safety talk everyday before getting on the water other boats just had a driver not a guide on board major difference. One day on the water wouldn't have been enough everyday was so different. Each day out we had over an hour whales rubbing on the boat pushing the boat and of course personal Hands-On petting. Also other Outfitters had far more people in the boat made me smile I had made a better choice going with Sherry. While in Guerrero negro don't hesitate to ask Sherry other things to do there and where to eat turn me on to the best taco Wagon in Baja. Did this trip all alone will be back next year with friends and family. Safe travels everyone

Our family has travelled all over the world and this whale experience is the most amazing of all!!!!! The whale camp is wonderful and is a chance to unplug from the outside world and spend time on a beautiful beach with whale tours daily.
The staff were amazing and bent over backwards to make sure we were well cared for. This was our second year and I had to bring my mom and father in law to experience it. They loved it and we are already planning our trip next year.
The whale interaction and information about the whales you get while on this tour just make it all the more amazing. Our 11 year old twins learnt so much from the information shared. The staff went out of their way to make our kids feel valued and answered their many questions along the way.
Can’t wait for next year!

Paid $800 for 2 people for the 3 night whale camp package. First night in a basic motel. No breakfast included. Then next day taken by bus to the camp. Had a whale trip for about 2 hours. Back to camp - tents are new and very good. Walk in tents. Clean. Blankets on bed. Lunch was fish tacos. Then you have the afternoon to wander. Not much to do. Dinner was chicken or beef tacos - not great. Next morning another whale trip - 12 people in the boat compared to 8 the day before. 12 is too many. Only 1 boat went out. Had been told that 2 would go and only 6 in each boat. Cutting costs. Whale trip of 3 hours. Back to camp and fish for lunch - good. Then again an afternoon of nothingness. Good if you want to read or sleep!! Offered another boat trip but $40 each. Adding to the overall cost - no one was really interested- needed minimum of 4 people. Salad for dinner. Option of the chicken fajitas looked poor. Then bed and left in morning. So good experience with an expert whale person in camp. But very expensive for what you get. I would not do this again. The whales are in the lagoon so you don’t need to do a basic whale camp unless you want to sleep in a tent. It was cold at night even with blankets. Big pressure to give tips. Everyone given individual envelopes so we could put tips in for each person in camp. Told that they need tips as don’t get paid enough. It was part of the introduction talk - that they expect tips so that they can earn some money. Debated on 3 or 4 stars - given 4 as I enjoyed it - but we’d probably have saved $500 just by doing 3 or 4 whale trips over the 2 days from GN with other tour operators.

We will never forget the joy of being with the gray whales last week. The whales approach the boats to get petted, to scratch their hides on the bottom of the boat, to watch you, to introduce their babies to you. It is humbling and amazing and like nothing else. We spent two days in Shari's new beach camp, and loved every minute. Other camps are much more expensive, and perhaps offer a few more amenities. But while Shari's camp is rustic to be sure -- you're sleeping in tents and reading by flashlight -- we never wanted for a thing. The tents are brand new and terrifically comfortable (we had a king bed, and our three grown kids slept on cots in a different tent). When we weren't in the boats, we played cards, read books, went swimming, did some beachcombing, sang on the guitar, and otherwise enjoyed a relatively unplugged life (but they do have a solar charging station for recharging cameras/computers etc). Shari has been living in Mexico for decades and is clearly gifted at hiring good people -- she has a bartender and cook and a fantastic guide (woohoo Judith!) and great boat operators and drivers etc etc. She also offers day trips, but staying there gave us the opportunity to do more whale trips and also to do them earlier in the morning (and also just to soak up more of the experience). We wish we were still there!
