This park is sold at you to be an eco friendly park , winning awards for it's care for animals. I do not understand how it has received this as the animals welfare does certainly not come first . The dolphins are in natural sea water however still in pens for the tourists to complete their activities. I believe they do join them all together when the park closes but it's really not alot of space for the amount of dolphins at the park. All of the other animals are also enclosed in small areas , not enough space for them too move aorind comfortably. We paid alot of money to come on this trip , mainly to have a go at the all day snorkelling offered . If you think you get to watch dolphin shows or interact with any of the animals , you can if you are willing the pay the ridiculous prices . If you are not paying to carry out an additional activity, you don't see much of the animals at all. For example to swim with the manatees was an additional 80 dollars each on top of the 80 dollars we had already paid each go enter the park. We enjoyed the all day snorkelling. This was a fantastic part of the trip , along with the zipwires and bike ride. The giant slide...don't go on if you have a bad back, luckily I thought twice , apparently it hurts. The caves here , I would really recommend not going in, it felt like swimming in sewage water. All of the free activities you have access to are really bigged up and are not as exciting as you may expect. My partner went down on the zipwire, you must then swim away steps to get out of the water. He just came off the zipwire and started swimming and the life guards sent the next person down , who landed on top of him. They did not check to see if he was okay , or apologize, they didn't care . Also if you take a camera , don't expect to be allowed to use it at view points as they stop you and make you get professional photos which you must pay for . If you do go, take a form of wet shoes. We had flip flops and decided to buy wet shoes from the shop at xelha. Big mistake , with what equated to £60 for 2 pairs. Really our fault for getting mixed up with the currency, but it happens , definitely did not add to the list of good things on our day out.
This place is good if you're a strong swimmer and happy to be in the water all day with the fish. If not I'd avoid it and save your money.

We booked through our TUI rep and paid around $160 which gives you access to the park and snorkels flippers etc You can go down the river in a rubber ring which then opens up into a giant lagoon for snorkelling, You also get your food and drink included for the day. All the other activities on offer are then at an extra cost as well as photos extra cost. We enjoyed swimming with the dolphins but again the photos included in this activity were a separate cost which was over $100. Not a cheap day out wouldn't go again.

This park is huge and it’s all inclusive. I would highly recommend wearing water shoes the whole time you’re at Xel-ha. We purchased the sea trek add on and photo package. First we did the lazy river. When checking into the lazy river they give you a bag to put various items in which you will pick up at the end of the river.

We decided that after an hour of floating around to exit the lazy river before it official end. DON’T let them take your shoes and put them in the bag, unless you plan on a leisure float to the official end of the river.

The highlight our our day at Xel-ha was the underwater Sea Trek. It was AWESOME walking underwater with fish surrounding us. It felt like we were in a shoal, and I got some great video on my GoPro camera.

The only thing is we felt that the day was too long. The round trip transportation picked us up at 7:20am and departed for our hotel at 6:00pm. This made for a rather long day.

We went with our 20 y.o. Son this last time. It was great, especially with the new water slide that wasn’t opened last year when we come. It’s a great day in the open water, with food 🥘 ncluded, sprinkled with some cool activities for all.
Third visit in 20 years, and I will probably be back to n next visit too.

We’ve taken more than one tour with Experiencia Xcaret. They’ve all been great. Xel - Ha (pronounced SHELL-ha) was a bit of let down.

They get points for promoting eco-tourism and a lot of messaging about protecting the environment and the effects of global warming. Unfortunately, Xel-Ha is a case of talk is cheap and walking the talk is a different story.

We sprang for the dolphin encounter because we love these mammals and wanted to support conservation. While the experience itself brought us close to the creatures, the dolphins are kept in small enclosures- which is disheartening. The dolphins pull tourists, perform tricks, etc. We’re no dolphin experts, but the animals seemed nervous and ill at ease. Many of these animals are second generation- born, raised and live their lives in captivity. There was no signs of any active conservation work-but no mistreatment either. On the plus side the park partnered with some well know universities, ostensibly for research, and received several humane treatment certifications.

This is a water park that is designed to look like an inlet and lagoon. We snorkeled the lazy river , but found it murky, devoid of any animal life except for an over abundance of humans riding rubber tubes. There’s only a handful of activities included with your basic ticket. Additional activities cost and outnumber the included ones. You can easily do the entire park sans the add ons in 3 hours. They do provide towels, lockers, swim masks, snorkels and swim fins in the basic cost.

Balancing out the negatives of the concept, is the park’s operations. While others have given poor reviews of the food, we thought it was the highlight of the day. The buffets, and we sampled them all, had a plethora of choices and were very good. A great way to sample cuisines from around Mexico. The all inclusive nature (including alcohol) makes this a great deal.

Another highlight, the entire staff was friendly, happy to serve you and undeniably accommodating. Hiring and training must be a high priority.

The lighthouse/water slide is one of the included activities. It’s a little deceiving, but a good thrill ride. Spoiler- It goes from this isn’t so bad to oh I’m picking up speed to OMG what’s happening?

This is a mixed review. You’ll want to determine where you come down on animals in captivity before laying out some dinero.
