Mount Grace Priory was recommended to us by the lovely staff at Northallerton Tourist Information Centre.
It was a term time Friday mid morning when we visited. Whilst it appeared to be busy, it wasn't crowded and we could move around freely both outdoors in the ruins, the workrooms and house.
A lovely place to visit, quiet, calm and pretty gardens and ruins. Do walk down through to the pond and lower gardens where the ducks were and the bridge crosses the water/ponds. We spent a couple of hours here. We went in October and the trees and leaves were just on the turn. Some lovely colours and fortunately a fine day weather wise.
The cafe itself is quite small but there is some outdoor seating, undercover and plenty of lawned area for kids to play if the weather is fine. Hot chocolate was good.
This is an english heritage property so if you are a member it is free to park (sticker in windscreen otherwise it is a pay machine) and the staff we met were friendly and polite. A good place to spend a couple of hours to clear your head and take in some interesting history.

I'm an English Heritage Member so parking and entry is free for me. The positives then; the setting is wonderful, roam around at your leisure and use your imagination as to how the monks lived in isolation. They may have been isolated but their 'cells' were a three room two-storey house with its own garden. The re-creation of one of the monk's cells was an idyll to me. But then again, hours and hours of solitary with meals delivered via a hatch by the door..
Away from the Priory itself are wonderful gardens, ponds and an orchard by the cafe.
My negative: The main house is crying out for rooms decorated in the Arts and Crafts style. It alludes to it but there are no rooms given over to it. Shame as it would make a big difference with William Morris decor et al.

Lovely Priory to look round still alot to see very interesting all the information on life as a Monk, the Manor House was grand and had a cute little second and library where you leave a donation, definitely recommend a visit, free parking for members, think entry was around £12, cafe on site.

Another outstanding example of English heritage.
I was very pleased that our national trust memberships got us into the house! Usually that’s not the case.
We were greeted by a lovely woman on the desk who was incredibly informative and really gives credit to her profession, left her to look around equipped with the right information needed.
I don’t want to say any spoilers but it’s well worth the visit!
Very interesting.

Utterly charming Priory. Lots of things to see. Parking is no problem. The house is well worth a look around. The priory itself still has many of its walls still standing.

A fab few hours at mount grace, the kids loved looking around the ruins, checking out the monks cell & relaxing in the gardens.

From mediaeval to Victorian - the house and well preserved monastery museum are a double bonus - really well presented . the gardens were also joy.

The site was really interesting. Restored house (arts and crafts) and stunning garden. The ruins of the church and priory, and the restored monk’s ‘cell’ and garden are really interesting.

Overpriced for what there is here, mostly old ruins and a few grasy areas. There is a cafe but it's very expensive. I didn't go in the priory as we had our dog but my wife did and she said it wasn't that good

We decided to come to Mount grace priory today. I was trying to pay for parking using my card and it said failed payment. So I went inside to pay. It wasn’t until I got home and looked on my bank that it says that I’ve actually been charged twice!
However, had a lovely look around the abbey ruins and in the monks cell. The gardens are beautiful too,
We spent around an hour at here.

Is this place suitable for pushchairs?x
Escrita el 2 de noviembre de 2018
It’s a beautiful place to visit but I wouldn’t really say it is pushchair or wheelchair friendly really as you’re scrambling round ruins etc.
For slightly older children it would be great, they’d have a whale of a time racing round !

Do they sell the Mount Grace Priory guidebook ,which has a red spine, at the priory itself?
Escrita el 8 de julio de 2018
Sorry I didn’t see one that I can remember, you could always give them a call.

We are national trust members and we have a passport for collecting stamps. Does this place have a stamp to put in the book?
Escrita el 6 de septiembre de 2017
It's owned by the national trust but ran by English heritage that was my reason for asking

Is the parking free for disabled patrons. Do you have any reductions in the entrance fee for disabled and their carers. Thank you
Escrita el 10 de junio de 2017
Parking is free for everyone. See this from NT site Entry fees
Our admission policy admits the necessary companion, or carer, of a disabled visitor free of charge, on request, while the normal membership, or admission fee, applies to the disabled visitor.
To save having to ‘request’ a companion’s free entry, an 'Access for all Admit One Card' can be issued by our Supporter Service Centre. This card is made out in the name of the disabled person, not the companion, so there is not a restriction to taking the same person on each visit.
To request an Access for all Admit One Card, please either email our Supporter Service Centre or phone them on 01793 817634. They will need the name and full postal address of the disabled person.

I see that Mount Grace Priory is free to National Trust members but wondered if this extends to the parking ?
Thanks in anticipation
