Very disappointing indeed. £4.95 for what exactly? Trades on the 6 vcs before breakfast and then gives a very little space in the museam to the Gallipoli campaign. Yet the signs indicate a gallpoli room and exhibition which simply dont exist. Dont get me started on the pathetic cafe upstairs. Absolute rubbish in the first degree. had to ask to get a table cleared so that we weren't seated among the last occupants mess and yet our order arrived and was places among the last people's clutter. The waiter had no clue. WILL NOT BE BACK despite my love of this regiment and it's history.. My grandparents served with the Lancs but when my generation have gone do you think the next will come??????? NO!!!!! my grand kids could not care one jot.

An excellent military museum. Exhibits were well presented and staff were friendly and helpful. If I have one minor criticism, the lighting seems rather dim making some of the printed information difficult to read. On the other hand, it could be that my eyesight is poor!

The Fusilier Museum gives a very comprehensive history of the local regiment. We spent almost two hours there and there was still more to see. The entrance fee allows entry for a year and you will need more than one visit to assimilate everything!! Very handily located in the centre of Bury and opposite Bury Museum which is also well worth a visit. Friendly and helpful staff. Very enjoyable.

A cracking little museum set over a number of floors. It covers the Lancashire fusiliers history, including them guarding Napoleon on Elba. The museum is well laid out and there’s plenty of great exhibits. Entry fee is quite reasonable.

What is the Fusilier Museum?

The Fusilier Museum is an Army and a Regimental Museum that tells the stories of the Lancashire Fusiliers. It is located in Bury.

The museum has 2 main galleries.

They are:

The Lancashire Fusiliers

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

There is also the Quartermaster’s Store too.

The museum also includes a memorial garden with lovely surroundings. It features a number of banners highlighting the issues of people that were in the Army.

The Lancashire Fusiliers

This Gallery tells the story of the 20th Regiment of Foot. It also brings the stories of the Lancashire Fusiliers to life from 1688 to 1968.

This was an interesting Gallery with brilliant objects and detailed information about the Fusiliers. It was also great learning about James Wolfe and Francis Arthur Jefferson. In addition the uniforms were lovely with lots of detail.

The interactive element of smelling some of the horrible odours during those times was fun but it did smell awful.

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

This Gallery continues the story of the Fusiliers up to the current day. It covers a number of different conflicts and wars including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Theatre of War was inviting and engaging but it was also informative at the same time using a variety of media forms including text, audio, art, quotes, and objects. The Gallery had a good explanation of the numerous wars around the world. In addition, it also included the sad story of Lee Rigby who was killed by Islamist terrorists and a beautiful artwork of his son Jack with a sad and a powerful quote relating to his dad.

There was also a shooting simulation game. It was fun and entertaining learning how to shoot using a gun. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

The Quartermaster’s Store

The Quartermaster’s Store is a special exhibition space which houses a large collection of items including uniforms, medals, cutlery and china. It also includes objects relating to the Quartermaster who is Major Christopher Gollop.

It was great gaining an insight into some of the important items used on a daily basis during the lives of the Fusiliers. One of my highlights in this room was dressing up into one of the military jackets. It was fun but also you learn about the style and fabric of such clothes back in the old times.

Entry and Admission Prices

Entry to the Fusilier Museum is by paying a ticket upon arrival. Once you have paid for your ticket then this entitles you free entry for 12 months from the date of your first visit. This is good value for money.

The admission prices are as follows:

Adult £6.95

Child/Concession £5.95

Family of 4 £22.95
(2 adults and 2
children)

Opening Times

The Fusilier Museum is open:

Monday – Friday 10am – 5 pm

Saturday 10am – 4 pm

Last admission is 1 hour before closure.

Lighting and Access

The Fusilier Museum has good decent lighting in most of the building apart from some small dark areas.

In relation to accessing the museum space then there are ramps and lifts to access all floors of t he building. On one of the floors there are a small number of stairs to get access to the other part of the room.

Parking

This museum does not have its own designated car park however there is pay and display parking outside the building. This is free for those with a Blue Badge. There is also a Q-Park a multi-storey car park nearby too.

If you love learning about history particularly the Lancashire Fusiliers in a fun, interactive and in an engaging way then the Fusilier Museum is the place for you.

Fascinating collection of exhibits, very informative. (Artillery, Medals & Clothing). Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy history, and one for the family. A testament to the sacrifices of the Fusiliers.

Having visited this museum a few times I was pleased to learn that another extensive room upstairs called the Quartermasters Store has opened. This is basically an overflow of vast collection on offer and it is a welcome addition. The museum houses the collection of the Lancashire Fusiliers, commemorating over three hundred years of the regiment's history. Beside the museum stands the Gallipoli Garden, with its listed war memorial. The highlight possibly are the Victoria Cross collection immortalised through the Gallipoli campaign. s The museum overall is a well run and has an efficient layout. You have a cafe, shop and several display areas.

We visited this museum whilst in Bury and found it very interesting. Spaced over 3 floors it is very good with a lot of history about the early and later history of the fusiliers and many exhibits of uniforms and artefacts. The admission fee is very good and gives you access for the next twelve months if you go back to the area .
