We stopped here for a quick visit on a long car journey. Didn't go inside the castle but had a wounder round the grounds, which were in their winter hibernation. Nice views of the valley and surrounding countryside.
We'll come back in the summer for a proper look-round.

As with all National Trust properties the staff are tge highlight of the visit. They go out of their way to explain about the rooms in the properties and enhance your visit
The Clive museum is a must as it is full of great displays.
Highly recommend

My wife and I go here every week to walk, we kind of use it as our gym, much nicer being out in the fresh air, and a good walk around the garden with plenty of stairs and slopes is excellent exercise.
We have been to a lot of National trust properties around the country and this has the best overall garden as it looks lovely all year around, the gardeners here do an excellent job and you always see them working away rather than standing around talking like a lot seem to do in other places ! top marks to them.

My girlfriend and I recently visited Powis Castle and Gardens for the first time, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The sheer beauty and history of the castle and its grounds left us in awe.
We spent hours exploring the meticulously maintained gardens, each section offering its own unique charm. The wealth of history and art inside the castle was captivating, and we learned so much during our visit.
The whole day was a delightful blend of education and enjoyment. With so much to see and learn, we are certain to visit again next year. Powis Castle and Gardens is a must-see for anyone looking for a blend of history, beauty, and tranquility.

Impressive gardens and castle. Worth taking some time over. Views from the gardens are good too. The famous yew topiary is amazing, such big specimens. Great courtyard, and lovely interesting interior.

Visited the castle once again; a superb place. Even though the castle itself was not open, the grounds are amazing and lots of the trees are lit at the moment. Lots of peacocks to take photos of and we were lucky enough to see deer.

My sister and I chose Powys castle specifically to see the Clive museum; both of us are familiar with the castle and gardens from previous visits.
On arrival in the morning, we were told that the museum wouldn't be open until 1.30,due to lack of volunteers - annoying, but we decided that we could have a coffee, then explore the castle first.
Our tour around the castle was a disappointment; whilst conservation is important, the curtains in most rooms were drawn, and so exhibits could barely be seen in the gloom. Even rooms where there was natural light had muslin blinds obscuring the views.
There was an air of neglect, with most of the furniture covered in dust,so that the inlays and marquetry were dull, giving no sense of their beauty. Labelling was antiquated, making it hard to read in the poor light, and whilst it's interesting to see previous cataloguing,up to date ,clear information boards would have been more helpful. Having visited other Trust properties, this seems to be the norm, and should be addressed.
Once we reached the Clive museum,we were told that the throne( a centre piece of the museum and main reason for coming) was on loan to the British museum - had this been mentioned at the castle entrance,we could have made an informed decision about whether to go in.
The cafe was good, offering a range of food, but quite expensive, and the tracking system for food service worked less well than the traditional wooden spoon with a number.
All in all, very expensive for what was offered.

Great day out to see inside the castle followed by the fabulous garden with its Peacocks.
And plenty of walks in the deer park. Not to be missed

A great day visiting with family.
Views and gardens beautiful especially with all the Autumn colours.
Thank you to all the guides and volunteers, what an outstanding job. Decided to join the ghost tour and it was fascinating, enjoyed the stories and history, impressive knowledge from Richard.
Well worth a visit, just need to tag team if your taking the dogs as there are restrictions.

Beautiful gardens and extensive, along with peacocks roaming freely. Also on the site is a cafe (serving fiod and drinks), free parking, and toilets. Unfortunately, you are not permitted to take pictures of the inside of the castle, nor the exhibition, which was really interesting with the tiger's perspective!
I really loved the statues in the garden and in the castle Prince Arthur's sword (the older brother of the future King Henry VIII) among other artefacts and tapestries. Ask about the legs on the marble table.... made of wood, but made to look much more grand! We learned this from one of the guides, most of whom were very knowledgeable and helpful.
A good visit, which requires one to two hours, or longer if you want to walk around thr grounds for longer!

how do we go from London gto Powis castle
Escrita el 14 de noviembre de 2019
by car: M1 or M40 to M6, then to M54 and A5, then A458 to Welshpool. Allow at least 5 hours from London or 4 from the bottom of the M1. By train: Welshpool station is about 25 mins walk from the castle, when you leave the station go through the Tesco car park (opposite side of the roundabout) and into the town, go up the high street and there are gates on the left, from there it is a mile to the castle. Bear in mind opening times. In no way is this a day trip from London!

My husband has difficulty walking. Do you have disabled parking /transport or can I drive up to the castle and drop him off and return to the car parking?
Escrita el 11 de julio de 2019
Don't bother going if you also want to see inside the castle. My friend is in a wheelchair. The transport from car park to entrance is good and there is a disabled toilet but the 13 steps to be climbed to get into the first floor of the castle means it is NOT accessible to those who are wheelchair bound. We were given an iPad to loo at which had some photos of the interior but no accompanying information. My friend spent two hours sat in the café accompanied by one of us. My advice would be to look elsewhere

There are some form of children’s play areas in most National Trusts I have visited. Is there one here?
Escrita el 24 de junio de 2019
On the big lawn in the beautiful garden there are numerous games for children to play.

Can you take dogs in the gardens?
Escrita el 26 de mayo de 2019
only in the winter season. Keep an eye on the castle website for exact dates. Dogs will need to be on short leads and cleaning up after them is of course expected.

Can we just visit the gardens and what would the entrance cost be.
Escrita el 5 de mayo de 2019
I am afraid the new management of the NT are becoming more and more focused on revenue raising. No interest now in the less well off family wanting to let the kids burn off energy in the gardens. The gardens were a delight to pop round at different times of the year too. And the food prices are ruinous now. £2 for a paper cup of tea. £5.25 for an egg roll. So NT is now for the well healed only.

Can we just visit the gardens . What would the entrance fee be just for the gardens
Escrita el 4 de mayo de 2019
The admision fee is for the whole property. However, it won't concern you if you hold a national trust pass. I used a touring pass, for visitors only.

Can you scan your national trust barcode on your phones to get in? As my cards haven’t come yet?
