To move into a brand new house is a great thing. To move into a new house designed by your son in 1950n was the most talked about residence in Sydney. the design overturned every architectural convention of suburban home design. It hovers , Frank Lloyd Wright style, over the edge of the bush with its stark, cube-like form, sent shock waves through the leafy tranquility of Sydney’s leafy upper North Shore. The house is one of the most complete and intact post World War design collection in public ownershipII

have lived nearby for 70 years and finally went to see it.Took visiters from US. We all enjoyed it.The introductory video was great, the two guides were enthusiastic and brought to house to life. Its a pity that it is only open 10am to 4pm Sundays but is well worth the visit.
To sum up visit in a word ......AMAZING

We were really lucky to be given a tour by a knowledgeable historian with a fabulous twirly moustache ..thank you. We loved the life history of the Seidler family, which put the house in context. If you love the 1940s & 50's, this will be interesting. For example, I didn't know that there were dishwashers in this era.

I had long wanted to visit this wonderful house and was not disappointed. Please note that it is only open on Sundays. It is a wonderful example of 1950's modernist architecture and was designed by the late Harry Seidler for his parents. The house's location is wonderful and many of its features would not be out of place in a contemporary Australian home. It bears similarities with the Farnsworth House in Plano, Illinois, which was built at approximately the same time.

At first glance, Alvar Aalto's buildings came to my mind, but having a second look, I noticed more differences than similarities. Probably because they worked roughly at the same time, and got similar influences. Maybe that we call contemporary architecture now is already different, but it doesn't make these buildings less valuable. For example in Budapest now the Art Deco houses are having their second Renaissance. The perfect location of the Rose Seidler house probably makes it more adorable. Hiding in the corner of Wahroonga on the top of a slope, surrounded by the eucalyptus trees of Ku-ring-gai Chase N. P., makes it a perfect Australian home. It is fascinating to listen to the video, where Henry Seidler is talking about the house that he built, and the concept, why did he plan this building in this way. Maybe now some of us would make a different arrangement, but it won't be necessarily better, just would mirror a different taste from a different area.
The house is open only on Sundays, and easily accessible by public transport. From Wynyard station choose T1 toward Bewrowra, till Turramurra Station. Here use the exit Not towards William Str. , as the instruction says, but Rohini Str. The bus stop is there. From stand B the 575 goes to the direction of the House. Get off at Cherrywood Ave. It is the 10th stop, but don't count them, since the bus doesn't stop at most of them. Ask the driver to warn you. From there only a 250m is your destination.

Plan ahead the time you need to get there and keep in mind it is only open on Sunday, but this is a must if you have an interest in modern architecture and how Seidler introduced it to Australia. The only little thing to improve would be the screen in which the introductory video is on display, a larger screen would allow visitors to better enjoy the movie.

Hard to be objective; architecture and any form of cultural interest is so objective and it's also hard to assess such design that was done decades ago to what we live with today. Personally didn't like the design or spacial context but understand it was unique and special when built

Amazing house in an amazing setting. Absolutely awesome for any modernism or architecture nerds.

But the historic houses trust, or SLM as they are called now (sounds like a STD...) just ruin with all their nonsense.

What aovely location and a cool designed house. A blend of industrial architecture with 50s and 60s styling inside. Bright colours juxtaposed against a more restrained palette. It is trip down memory lane if you are of a certain age. The setting is beautiful and tranquil. Well worth visiting.

If you like clashing colours and really uncomfortable furniture, this is the place for you. It is a really historic house from the 1950's and gives you a good idea of the architecture of that time. The gardens were lovely but the house was very hot inside, Thirty minutes was enough for me but, if you are interested in 1950's architecture and furniture, you will enjoy Rose Seidler house
