We chanced upon the National Liberty Museum after our visit to the Independence Hall. My friends and I are extremely woo by the powerful digital graphic presentation sharing about liberty. It was the most impactful presentation we have experience. The words, thoughts and question surely get us thinking about what liberty really means and how every individual can do their part. Very impressive.

We were not sure what to expect here but it has challenging exhibits that make you think. Themes centered on truth, freedom and other concepts. The museum had prompts and displays that were not about history per se but about values and themes related to democracy. Likely above the heads of many kids but intriguing visit.

There is a lot to do in Philly and having been fortunate to visit other museums in the area we looked forward to our visit in August. The message is so important but we felt the museum lacked exhibits worthy of the subject matter. That’s not to say that this is not worth checking out - but if you have only a short time in Philly then there are other better attractions to visit.

Visiting this museum should be required of all American citizens, especially right now. We all need to hear and understand the message of this museum; Liberty is fragile; all of us have a responsibility to safeguard it. This museum is small, but extremely well done. Very thought-provoking. I especially enjoyed the second floor. It features tributes to well-known people such as Anne Frank and Nelson Mandela, but also “ordinary” people that I have never heard of, such as one specific Polish family who hid Jewish people during the Holocaust and a nurse in a New Orleans NICU who helped to save 18 premature babies during Hurricane Katerina. Thank you to those who maintain this important place.

One of my favorite museums in Philly so far.

When I went, they had an exhibit called “Graphic Content,” centering on social justice. Loved the different mediums used. Some pieces were digital, some on glass. Some ink. Difficult to describe all of the moving pieces presented here. I loved them all. And each piece was presented along with an artist’s explanation, which I really liked. Plus, I identified with all of the sentiments from each artist.

There was also a small exhibit by what I assumed to be children and teens called “Caretoons,” pieces talking about how and why we should take care of each other.

They also have a couple of permanent exhibits. They have a 21 foot Dale Chihuly piece that represents the flame of liberty. They also have an exhibit on heroes of freedom, such as Anne Frank and Nelson Mandela. They also focus on many other people who have fought for freedom—people not featured as prominently throughout history—such as Ho Feng Shan, the “Chinese Schindler,” who, risking his life, wrote thousands of passports to save Jewish people.

So many moving stories that I would have possibly never known without this museum.

The museum also has fun community events, like exhibit bingo and history comedy improv. They also have workshops in the basement.

Again, one of my favorites.

I had not had not heard much about this museum but we had over an hour to waste before our tour and we were close by so we decided to check it out. So glad we did. This place was awesome. They had various art from local artist that expressed their view of independence. They had a beautiful glass sculpture that lit up. They also had a gallery of amazing people who did things to make the world better. I would recommend this museum to anyone visiting Philadelphia.

A surprise find while we were visiting the Museum of the American Revolution; it’s in the block before. There were several exhibits dedicated to the heros of 9/11; the Liberty flame was phenomenal, made of blown glass. The Jellybean kids was another favorite exhibit with an important message.

I consider the National Liberty Museum to be a "hidden gem" that is well worth experiencing. When paying our admission fee (*If you are an AAA member, show your card and save $4.00), we were advised to begin on the top floor and work our way down. However, don't skip the video before you head upstairs. It really makes you think about the price of liberty throughout the world. My eleven year old grandson was fascinated by every gallery, and he genuinely enjoyed viewing and reading the exhibits in each gallery. Personally, I enjoyed the Flame Gallery. The Flame of Liberty is an unbelievable work of art over two stories tall. Be sure to spend some time viewing the Inspiration Exhibit. You will see some famous Americans who have overcome challenges in their lives to become successful in their fields. Perhaps the most haunting exhibit is Heroes of 9-11 Exhibit. Seeing the video and remembering what happened on that day made me realize the ultimate sacrifice so many individuals made on that day. Plenty of visual and hands-on technology to keep kids interested. So glad we decided to visit this museum.

We've done this as a field trip for our middle schoolers for years and we all love it. Everyone (no matter the age) will get something out of this museum!
