This interesting and well maintained old cemetery is a great place to visit when in Brownsville. It offers an opportunity to learn more about the various families who settled here. A history lesson in itself.

Cemeteries older the better. If you walk respectfully down the rows you can learn a lot. Size of families and the ages they passed. Before modern medicine many children and enfants died as did women in childbirth. Sobering facts in these times. Life was not easy for these people

I love the slow drive through reading names and dates on tombstones and also viewing the resaca activity of white pelicans, whistling ducks, other waterfowl and turtles. A calming experience

If you're into cemeteries this is a nice place to visit. Lots of local history with plaques giving historic information. Lots of unique birds in the area. It's a big cemetery but easily walkable. We enjoyed walking through and we're glad we visited.

Fun to visit the New Orleans style cemetary in historic area of Brownsville (although, not a lot to enjoy during our visit...the Railroad museum was closed because of festival days, seemed odd when that would briing more people to visit), but the best part was seeing hundreds (!) of green parrots flying around and squawking! Had seen same green parrots in Barcelona, but not near as many. We were there about 4p, near sunset.

This very old cemetery is reminiscent of the ones you would see in New Orleans, but safer. It was beautiful, in a Gothic sort of way, despite some of the tombs crumbling apart.

I have relatives buried there. If you walk around, you will see ancient tombstones, which tell of the love and sadness left by the survivors. Toward the left is an area that is fenced off and where the Jewish population of Brownsville was buried.

One of the oldest, if not THE oldest cemetery in town. I have a thing for cemetries, bridges and open nature... and one of my favorite of local cemeteries in town is Brownsville's Old City Cemetery. It has a slight new Orleans cemetery style feel to it all with the above ground tombs. It houses a lot history and historical figures of the area. Not to mention it is loaded with Pokestops, lol.
