My son and I hiked up Wasson Peak on our visit to Saguaro National Park. The hike is somewhat challenging. It is a lot of hiking uphill and there are a good amount of switchbacks. The views along the hike are quite beautiful and there are Saguaro all around along with many other plant species. Once on top the view was wonderful. It was a beautiful day when we hiked and the sky was completely clear. I highly recommend a hike up to Wasson Peak if you enjoy hiking.

Located in Saguaro National Park West. I started in the early morning just after sunrise and followed the King's Canyon Trail to the summit of Wasson Peak and descended on the Hugh Norris trail before returning to the King's Canyon Trailhead. Beautiful desert scenery all along the way surrounded by cacti but becoming spectacular with the 1800ft ascent. 360-degree views from Wasson Peak are amazing and the experience is worth the moderately strenuous climb to the top. Total hiking time was around 4 hours. Start early and bring plenty of water along with your hiking poles. Only around 30-40 people passed on the trail on a weekday in February.

Grand view of surrounding desert from the peak. Take a lunch and hang out. Moderate trail, bit more than 7.5 miles, 1700-1800 ft of gain. We looped from Kings Canyon trailhead, up to the peak, back via Hugh Norris and Sendero Esperanza trails, past the Gould Mine and back to parking. All desert - take tons of water (and if you are running low turn back when you have more than half your supply left - it can get hot!)

A very rewarding hike. We did it from the King's Canyon parking lot, up to the peak and then back on the Hugh Norris trail. The first part of the hike is not that scenic, but it gets increasingly better as you go. As others have described, the 360 view at the top is fabulous and worth the effort, but the descent down the Norris trail stays great for most of the way, too. Yes, there's elevation gain, but if you can persevere and handle switchbacks, there's nothing that hard; no mountain goat trails or rock scrambling. We benefited from blue skies and moderate temps, but I bet this could be a scorcher at the wrong time of year.

Love the area and the sites and the peacefulness. Lots of different trails that branch off of the main trail.

I was asked by a friend to do this hike. I must say I was very discouraged when I asked her “is that the top?” and she replied that was just a vault in front of the peak which was still out of our view from that point. Every time I thought we were there, we weren’t. But I was determined to go all the way to Wasson Peak and I am glad we did. The views are amazing! The trail at the beginning has some loose rocks. I was glad I had my hiking poles with me. I saw a guy slide over the rocks and fall down. I definitely wouldn't recommend doing this trail in summer. There is no shade. Bring lots of water and good shoes. When we were there, hard working employees from Saguaro NP were improving the trail. So please make sure to pay the dues for Saguaro NP, parks need it now more than ever, since a certain someone whose name I won’t mention stole millions from the national parks to build a wall.

We started from the King Canyon trailhead. We hiked up on the King Canyon trail and came back on the Goldmine trail. As others pointed out, there are more rock on the King Canyon trail. We prefer hiking up those rocks instead of down (and avoid the risk of sliding). The views along the hike, but especially when you reach the top are amazing. We only ran into a dozen of people over the 4 hours of hiking.

There are a couple trail options to make the climb to Wasson Peak. They are a challenging climb for a novice hiker, but manageable. Once you make it to the top, it is well worth it. The views in all directions are spectacular.

This is a must for hikers in the Tucson area. The views are majestic in ALL directions and achieved with little effort ( it only takes less than 2 hours to the top). We did the loop, starting on the King's Canyon trail side. I would recommend it in that order since King Canyon is by far rockier than the return via Hugh Norris and Gould Mine that have long sections of red sandy terrain - which I find much easier going down. Enjoy!
