Al haber manejado desde Sorrento con nuestra familia de once (mi marido y yo, mis dos hijos y sus esposas y cinco nietos), Antonello, el propietario de "Southern Visiones" y Gelso Bianco, nos saludó para un almuerzo tarde en Alberobello. nos trajo a un restaurante de Trulli y pedí un plato de comida típica y el vino de la zona. delicioso. Por último, fuimos de compras en el mercado para comprar los alimentos para nuestra clase de cocina. En Gelso Bianco Rocco se convirtió en el chef. Los nietos aprendieron a hacer pasta. Rocco tenía cinco nietos haciendo masa, flouring las tablas y Rolling la pasta. Cada niño tenía un "trabajo" y trabajaron arduamente bajo su supervisión. La comida era deliciosa. En la mañana, los nietos elegido higos desde los árboles y nos ayudó con el desayuno. Nos fuimos a la piscina en la piscina y luego preguntaron Rocco para jugar al fútbol con ellos. Todos lo pasamos muy bien. Altamura es la ciudad natal de mis abuelos maternos. Altamura es famosa por su pan. Rocco nos llevó a un pan de Altamura panadería. Los nietos participó en una "manos" experiencia de diferentes formas de pan tradicional de Altamura y lo pasamos de maravilla. Compramos panes y galletas y comimos la comida en Gelso Bianco. Altamura fue la parte más mágica del viaje. Teníamos el nombre de un funcionario de Altamura me dio la dirección última donde mis bisabuelos vivido. Visitamos la calle y destinados a tomar una foto delante de la puerta. Ya que éramos un grupo grande de gente haciendo mucho ruido, una mujer que salió en el balcón. preguntó si estábamos de América? Durante la conversación nos enteramos de que ella era mi abuelo sobrina. Ella tenía 84 años. Cuando volvimos a América nos llamaba y dejar que ella hablar con ella 95 años y primo! en resumen, un gran trabajo por el Gelso Bianco equipo entero!

The region of my grandparents; the towns of Monopoly and Altamura. Gelso Bianco was our wonderful residence. A restored Trulli farmhouse and cooking school in Alberobello.

Having driven from Sorrento with our family of eleven (my husband and I, two sons and their wives and five grandchildren), Antonello, the owner of "Southern Visions" and Gelso Bianco, greeted us for a late lunch in Alberobello. He brought us to a Trulli restaurant and ordered a meal with typical foods and wine from the area. Delicious.

Next, a tour of Alberobello. Mimmo was the guide. He is very passionate about the Trulli houses and gave us a wonderful history lesson and tour of Alberobello. Mimmo explained that there would be a feast in town while we were in Alberobello and so we attended the feast. Antonio, another member of the team, drove us to the feast. Antonio was a musician so I was able to sing "Guitarra Romana" with him. This was a nice surprise! We ordered a variety of meats from the butcher shop. The meat was cooked for us and we sat and ate among the locals at the feast. Later on there was fireworks that we could see clearly from Gelso Bianco.

Rocco served as a tour guide, our expert chief and football (soccer) coach! Rocco's is from Monopoly, the home town of my paternal grandparents. Rocco gave us a wonderful tour of the town. We visited the beautiful Basilica, where I am sure my grandparents went to church. We ate at a restaurant outside in the courtyard. Rocco ordered all the food typical of Monopoly. The meal began with sample tasting and then the main course was pasta cooked with fish in a crock pot a bread crust on top. Very unique. Finally, we shopped at the market to buy the foods for our cooking class.

At Gelso Bianco Rocco became the Chef. The grandchildren learned how to make pasta. Rocco had five grandchildren making dough, flouring the boards and rolling out the pasta. Each child had a "job" and they worked hard under his supervision. The meal was delicious.

In the morning, the grandchildren picked figs from the trees and helped with breakfast. They went swimming in the pool and then asked Rocco to play soccer with them. Everyone had fun.

Altamura is the home town of my maternal grandparents. Altamura is famed for its bread. Rocco took us to an Altamura Bread bakery. The grandchildren participated in a "hands on" experience of making different shapes of traditional Altamura bread and had a wonderful time. We purchased loaves of bread and cookies and ate the food at Gelso Bianco.

Altamura was the most magical part of the trip. We had the name of an official in Altamura who gave me the last address where my great grandparents lived. We visited the street and intended to take a photograph in front of the door. Since we were a large group of people making a lot of noise, a woman came out on the balcony. She asked if we were from America? During the conversation we learned that she was my grandfather's niece. She was 84 years old. When we returned to America we called her and let her speak to her 95 year old cousin!

All in all, a great job by the entire Gelso Bianco Team!

Our best bike trip ever -- the magic of Puglia and chef Rocco Cartia.

We are experienced cyclists, having taken more than 20 bike trips of a week or longer all over the world. Our two week self-guided trip in Puglia orchestrated by Southern Visions Travel tops them all. Part of it was the stellar routes, cue sheets, bikes and hotels chosen by Southern Visions. Part of it was becoming steeped in the traditional Pugliese culture, history and architecture as we pedaled bucolic back roads among the villages, farms, olive groves and ancient dwellings especially the otherworldly trulli (the stone structures with conical tops). The scenery in Puglia, in general, is gorgeous. But as we pedaled down the Adriatic coast to the very bottom of the stiletto it became jaw dropping and stunning. The warmth and geniality of the Pugliese people were incomparable; we made many friends. And then there was the incredible Pugliese cuisine and wine about which we still rave. Speaking of which, if you travel here -- and it should be on everyone's bucket list -- you must take a day to revel in Pugliese cooking. Southern Visions arranged for us to spend the day with chef Rocco Cartia. This is one of those life experiences not to be missed. Chef Rocco is the real deal -- the consummate pro complete with classical culinary knowledge and experience in a Michelin starred restaurant. But the essence of Rocco is his Pugliese roots, warmth and charm. You will start the day shopping in the market with Rocco, hoping for a fascinating day of cooking with a master chef. And you will get every bit of that. But you will also leave with Rocco's philosophy of cooking, of life, his knowledge of Pugliese ingredients, cuisine and culture, and a sense of his love for his people and his native region. A magical experience in one of the world's most magical places. Don't miss either one.

An extremely enjoyable few days in a gorgeously scenic part of the world. This was a press trip arranged by the very welcoming Antonello Losito of Southern Visions Travel and the focus was Puglian food. Chef Rocco provided exceptional meals and inspiring cooking lessons while the days were filled with authentic experiences highlighting the lifestyle and history of the region. From delicious bread, pasta, olive oil and vino, to the region's famous burrata mozzarella and freshly harvested sea urchins, the tastes of Puglia left us wanting much more. Visiting some exceptional local restaurants and no less than two incredible world heritage sites also helped set the scene for an amazing week of discovery. Commendable hosts and beautiful accommodation too. Lots of fun!

Wonderful stay at Gelso Bianco

9 of us spent a week at Gelso Bianco in October, 2012. It was wonderful! We biked during the day and had 3 fantastic cooking lessons from Chef Rocco (Chef Laura was out with her new baby in the evenings. The rooms were very nice, the grounds were well kept and the pool was a nice way to cool off when we returned from our biking. Breakfast was served each morning by Carmella, who made the most wonderful Crostatas. Rocco was a wonderful teacher and a great cook. He taught us many techniques and helped us as we prepared the dinners. Then he put the finishing touches on them to make them taste and look wonderful. I have taken many cooking classes and Rocco is one of the best teachers I have ever worked with. I would definitely go back again.

A truly experience to taste and cook the authentic fruit and vegetables of this incredible region.
The place is based in a very quite area and stunning trulli houses to stay..and enjoy the pool too.

Beautiful memory from the cooking tour

I went there with my colleagues(it is a department function). The whole trip was host by Antonello and Laura, very nice and caring people. We spend the last nite for cooking section. I have to say the house is so beautiful and quiet. We had a great time over there by learning and cooking pastas, guided by our big chef -Laura.

Go and have a look, you will like it, for sure.

Gelso Blanco and surrounding areas are a feast for the eyes. The atmosphere is extremely attractive and the hosts incomparable.

Charming Accommodations and Fantastic Culinary Tour

Charming and comfortable accommodations, relaxing atmosphere and wonderful hosts. My experience at Gelso Bianco was everything I expected. Our hosted culinary tour of Puglia was excellent. The normal traveler would never find all that we saw and experienced without the expert guidance of our hosts.
