Nice place to relax and watch the boats, or have a walk down the canal. Nice cafe good service, decent menu, eat in or sit outside.

What an amazing experience working these locks. I definitely recommend anyone who was on the canal to go here and enjoy doing the work that everyone has been doing for so many years. Take your kids, take your parents, take your friends, and go visit this amazing location.

Very difficult to find, no clear signage, worth it once you find it, lovely cafe, nice walk, interesting volunteers happy to chat, fascinating to watch the locks

5 of us spent an overnight adventure on the 62 foot "the mighty oak"laura and Dana were absolutely brilliant, from the amazing food basket and the both of them taking us on an 8 hour boat trip then docking us up at Grindley Brook.they made our grandson jenson (4) skipper for the day in charge of the horn which obviously he loved.superb hosts and the five of us who had never been on one of these beautiful boats agreed it was a lovely experience,if you've never done this before get in touch with Laura and Dana they make it all so comfortable.

We enjoyed travelling through Grindley Brook locks whilst on a narrowboat holiday. All canal and river volunteers extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. A site to enjoy as a boater, a walker, or simply whilst enjoying a pint at the pub located at the bottom lock.

A lovely place for a walk along the canal and watching the boats go through the staircase locks.
We walked along the canal and back for about an hour then stopped at the lock side cafe for a drink and watched the boats come through.

A staircase lock, so you have to know how to operate before you take your boat through, not as straight forward as you think! It is free to wander round and watch them in operation, if you are lucky to get a boat passing through. Good setting well worth 30+ minutes. There is a nice little café next to the gates.

The lock keepers were fantastic helping us through these locks. On the way down, we were first in the queue so quickly moved through the main three locks before gently heading out to the more spaced out lower three locks. On the way back up, we were incredibly lucky and were number 2 in the queue so again went through with no problems. Do allow plenty of time in either direction though as it can get very busy (especially at peak holiday times) and the lock keepers run a strict 3 up 3 down policy to save water. We had a very pleasant experience.

Nice setting - service could be better as it took an age to clear tables. Waitresses bringing out food and drink and returning empty handed without clearing tables. Dirty messy tables are off putting

We passed through here on our narrow boating holiday. The three locks, all tied together were a bit daunting, but the lock keeper was extremely helpful and proficient. She certainly seemed to enjoy her job and there was a fair bit of banter during the exercise. I really appreciated the way the locks had been built and the architectural design of the structures.
We stopped, on the way back, at the top of the locks and had a very pleasant sojourn at the tearoom, watching our fellow boaters negotiating the locks.
All this in pre-covid times.

Hello Mary and others. Judy and I will be doing a canal trip this September and I am beside myself regarding the Grindley Brook Locks. Not the Locks per se but the fact that they are step or ladder locks and getting lock etiquette right is important to us. Can you please give me your opinion as to whether I should be worried or that If we take our time we should be OK. Also we will be doing our week on the narrow boat in the first week of September. Are you able to tell us whether there will be a lot of people about. Thanks for listening.

Hello there, I live at Grindley Brook in the Canalside house you can see in the recent photo Graham V took. You should be absolutely fine, just take your time. There is a lock-keeper on at Grindley Brook at busy times and they operate on a three up and three down rule and boaters are very helpful too. We are plenty of boaters from NZ and Australia and depending on where you are starting from, you may be well use to locks by then. Don't rush and give yourself plenty of time.

Is there a car park there and if so do they charge? Also is it right next to the canal, so you can chat to people on boats while they making way through locks? Anywhere for them to moor up for an hour? (Want to suprise my parents when they come through!!
