This is a great day out, loads of interesting artefacts, great talk about the Cold War Ops. If you have an interest in the history of radar or indeed RAF Coltishall this is well worth a visit. I wouldn't suggest taking young children but older children and teens would probably find it interesting especially with regard to changing technology.

Many thanks for your brilliant review, the two main talks are both a bit long for younger children, but there's plenty of buttons to push, cockpits to climb in and a quiz for little ones.

Fantastic volunteer staff really brought the place to life.
All the family enjoyed it. Boys particularly liked sitting in the cockpits.

This is a gem of a museum!
Visited here as part of a couple, expecting to just be tagging along with my husband who has the greater interest in the technical stuff. I was so, SO wrong!
There was so much to see; many, many rooms of displays and information both on the development of radar and air defence from WW2 to the present day and social history of the people involved, all in what was a working building on the RAF base. This gives the whole experience a grounding and a reality that you just don’t get from an ‘ordinary’ museums. There are outdoor exhibits, interactive things to do, even cockpits and a flight simulator but the best things are the talks, one on the WW2 early development and one on the cold war era happenings (this one by people who actually worked here then). You will spend longer than you think here. You will learn things!
There is a cafe with good, if basic, choices; a lovely gift shop and lots of seats around. Some areas have steps - it’s an old, working building, and you will get the distinct impression of rabbit warren - there are lots of rooms and corridors.
Car parking is flat and close to the entrance, there is even designated motorhome and campervan parking marked.
The lasting impression I have, even taking into account all of the above, is of the people who run this gem. They are all so friendly, visitor orientated and knowledgeable that they stay in the mind. This is how all these museums should be run.
If you have the slightest interest in history of this period then visit, you’ll be glad you did.
Oh, and just to make it even better your tickets last a year!

Wow! What a fantastic review many thanks! You hit the nail on the head that we do like to think we have an interesting museum with a lovely cafe and shop, but it is the volunteers and the stories they share that really make this place special, thank you.

Excellent museum staffed by fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. Well worth a visit if in the area. Museum is much larger than you may think so would recommend a few hours if taking in the talks from the volunteers.

Amazing place to visit. Great, interactive displays and fascinating talks given by people who used to work there. The place is a rabbits Warren, with many rooms to visit, leave a couple of hrs at least, especially to listen to the talks.

Excellent exhibits and talks on the importance of radar during WW2 was very informative. Cold War Room was impressive and having a talk from someone who had worked in the room was extremely interesting.

I haven't sat in a radar ops room for almost 50 years until last week. The visit started with a very interesting talk about the role that Neatishead had played in defending our country. We gave the next talk a miss and had coffee and a snack instead before exploring the exhibits. I had certainly underestimated how long it would take to visit the museum, next time I will spend twice as long exploring, it could take all day. If you have ever had anything to do with air defence or radar then a visit here will bring memories flooding back, if you know nothing about those subjects then what are you waiting for, get down to one of the best museums around.

A fascinating and stimulating visit. Excellent displays and 2 very informative talks - WW2 and Cold War. Not enough time to visit every room so will be back again when able.

Having been stationed at Neatishead in 1967/8 and completing the ADRS officer's course there in 1969 (I think) I am keen to visit the museum, possibly on a Tuesday later this month. My slight problem is, being a widower, my dog always travels with me. There is not a problem with leaving him in the car, but should we happen to see the sun on my visit day. Is there a well shaded area to park?
Escrita el 1 de abril de 2015
There are shaded areas plus there is a secure dog compound. Water will be supplied on request.
