I want to make sure when I arrive I catch the local water bus taxi rather than a private one, how do I know what one is what? where do I purchase/pay for this?
could anyone recommend a good view restaurant please too? not hotel Danieli as I don't like anything on their menu!
thanks very much
If you are looking for the water bus, then ask for a vaporetto, those are much bigger and have dedicated stops, there is one in front of the train station. If you arrive by plane, you would take a conventional bus or a conventional taxi to Piazzale Roma, and then from there you can take a vaporetto. For the vaporetto, you have to purchase a ticket in advance, and validate it before boarding.
Private water taxis are also available across from the train station and from the airport, but you have stated that you do not want those, they are much smaller boats.
The Hotel Colombina concierge makes great restaurant recommendations.
I hope your trip went well! In the interest of helping other travelers with this question, I compared the values of a private water taxi vs a much cheaper vaporetto and concluded in our case that the water taxi was absolutely worth the extra expense for many reasons which I explain in my FoodiePilgrim blog at foodiepilgrim. com. Search for "water taxi" (Tripadvisor does not allow a link.)
