Do the Junior Suites all have a view? Even on the ground floor? Our trip here is planned for relaxation, beautiful views, good food & wine. Since the reviews say that the menu here is limited, are there other good restaurants close by? Is it possible to walk to them since someone also said that cars cannot get up the hill?
Hi Barbara--we LOVED Hotel Palumbo! Stayed there 5 nites. I think you can view each room on the hotel website and you can also let them know you are interested in a room with a view. We had the room with the half-circle window that looked out over the mountain side to the sea....just lovely. The food was great at the hotel but right out the door you can find other fine hotels that serve people who are NOT staying at their hotel. The main square restaurants aren't as remarkable. Restaurant Maria has fine food and an amazing view. Everything in Ravello is pretty much easily walked. This was my second time to Ravello and first time to Hotel Palumbo. You'll have a beautiful, relaxing time with sumptuous food and wine!
Our suite was on the entrance floor and had a view but I do not recommend the location - right next to the bar where people congregate and the noise carries. Many restaurants within walking distance. We had wonderful breakfasts at the hotel. Didn't eat dinner there.
Stayed in a ground floor junior suite at Palumbo last September. The ground floor suites are comfortable and spacious although a little dark. They have a limited view of the coastline but you can walk through patio doors to a communal grassy patio that leads to a covered balcony with seats and tables overlooking the beautiful coastline. Great place for an evening cocktail (or two!). If views of the coastline from your room are a must then I would recommend a higher level room / suite. My family had an excellent dinner at the Palumbo to celebrate my daughter's birthday - I thought the menu was more than adequate. However there are several excellent restaurants within 5 - 10 minutes walk from Palumbo. Cumpa Cosimo near the main square has great atmosphere and food. If you want to push the boat out, go to Rossellinis a 2 Michelin star restaurant a few minutes walk from Palumbo on Via San Giovanni del Toro. Dinned there with family - fantastic food but not cheap! Cars can go up the hill and Palumbo has it's own garage - a few yards from the hotel entrance. However driving along Via San Giovanni del Toro is not for the faint hearted - very narrow archway leading to hotel garage! However hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and are willing to either guide you through the narrow section or drive your car to the square near Hotel Caruso. We loved Palumbo and hope to return. It has fantastic views of the Amalfi coast, delightful and historic architecture, great staff and easy access to the centre of Ravello. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.
All "panoramic" junior suites have a view but since they have added the word panoramic, I doubt all have the view. The ground floor is not our understanding of it, since the hotel is built on the cliff so you will be fine. I have not eaten at the hotel but I would insist that you try the wines there (Episcopio), they are really good. There is a very nice restaurant "Cumpa Cosimo", around 7 min walking distance to the hotel and also other hotels' restaurants, one just a few buildings away from Palumbo. Taxis go up almost everywhere ; if not, you will just be climbing a few steps. But you can reach anywhere in Ravello on foot. The staff at the hotel will be quite helpful with the restaurants. Enjoy, the place is lovely.
