I didnt hear a thing and I have great hearing. I can hear my neighbor snore, sneeze and worse through the wall. My AC was pretty silent - I'm very noise sensitive and have a post on my blog where I track AC loudness by hotel. I was across the way from a loud humming building (HVAC system) and was worried - and slightly irate by the time I got to my room due to a reservation mix up - and didnt hear a thing once inside the room. I could hear loud guests screaming as they passed my room at night but that was about it. Couldnt even hear footsteps from above.

The short answer to your question is yes, this is PERFECT FOR A HONEYMOON.

If you want to know about the entire resort, here it is. I wrote this and Trip Advisor didn't allow me to post this long report so I posted a short one.

We have been travelling to this area of Mexico since 1980 and this was our favorite trip ever. We will be going back there next year unless travel to Cuba opens (I really want to go to Cuba).

Hard Rock Riviera Maya Trip Report – TripAdvisor

When a vacation comes to an end it is easy to say words like "best, worst, fantastic, terrible, etc..." but after you get home and back into everyday life things tend to even out and most vacation experiences blend together. Then you remember the happy and sad times, those special events, or terrible experiences that set one vacation apart from the others.

Now that our vacation at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya Hotel is over I will say this to anyone considering a trip to this part of Mexico. We have never had a staff who spent more time and personal energy trying to make us, and all the other guests, HAPPY. I think that is why we loved this week so very much.

THANK YOU HARD ROCK RIVIERA MAYA HOTEL. Your hospitality was magnificent. Your staff is among the best anywhere. You made this a special 6 days we will remember for the rest of our lives.

My review of this resort is very long (8 pages long). I tried to make it informational and helpful to people considering this resort as I possibly could. I tried to touch on everything I could think of to make people be able to choose if this was the right hotel for them. Sorry if I get “wordy” but this was an attempt to be ALL-INCLUSIVE and as THROUGH AS POSSIBLE.

Each area is noted in CAPS. If that area is not of interest to you then just skip to the next section. Please let me know if the overall review was helpful. I am more than willing to answer questions so you don’t have to rely on a travel agent who wants to sell you a week in Mexico. I’m a retired teacher, not a travel agent. I just love to right reviews of our trips! Also check out my pictures. All were taken with an iPhone 6+ so they are normal pictures. None have been edited to make them special or to cut anything bad out.

CHECK-IN –

Check in went rather quickly and the people at the desk are very nice. Assuming you have your things in order you will only be at check in for less than 10 minutes. They took us out the front lobby and in just a moment we were zipped to our room via a golf cart which was a very nice touch.

Much to our surprise there was no timeshare/right of use push at check-in, and the bell boys at the front took care of us like champions. This was a very nice start to our vacation.

TIMESHARE PUSH –

I figure I will address it now since some people want to know about it. Myumi Yamamoto called us down to the indoor patio to “get to know” the resort plans. I thought this was a nice touch. She did a great job of telling us about different things that go on at the resort. She told us about BOTH SIDES and gave us some little schedules and then a map of the resort. All of this was very nice!

Just as I got to feeling guilty thinking I was wrong about the TIMESHARE PUSH she slipped it in. She invited us to a “get together, not to buy anything, but to know what Hard Rock Hotels has to offer just in case we wanted to know more about the Hard Rocks.” We explained that we already owned two timeshares and she tried her best to let us know that this was not a timeshare presentation but they would be giving us 400 resort credits if we went there for the 90-minute presentation. I politely declined and made it clear that we would not be spending any of our vacation in a sales presentation.

She did call us back once more during the week. When she identified herself I said the vacation was going great and told her I was late to meet my wife at the pool and said “gotta run, thanks for calling” and hung up. That was the last I heard from her. No pressure, but the people who went to the presentation did tell us it is high pressure so if you don’t want to buy then don’t go. It’s just not worth it to waste time away from your vacation.

OUR ROOM –

Our room is a Platinum Sky Suite which is small by the standards I have come to expect in Mexico, but the room is very nicely appointed. To my surprise there is no regular bath tub in this suite (my wife said she knew this when we booked it). The shower is beautiful and is large enough for a small party. I don’t care for the small “water closet” for the toilet but that is personal taste. The room is VERY MODERN so if you are looking for a touch of Mexico then this is not the right resort for you.

Some notes about our room after a week. Some people had reported they didn’t like the beds. I found the bed to be WONDERFULLY COMFORTABLE. I slept very well all vacation. There are four pillows on the bed. Two king sized and two regular. I found the king-sized pillows to be excellent and I wish I had made note of the brand so I could order some for the house.

As I noted earlier, the shower is HUGE and the shower head is at least 7 feet off the floor so even the tallest NBA Basketball player can take a comfortable shower. I LOVE a high shower head. In building one the water pressure was nice and the temperature of the water was easy to control (something we have had problems with in Mexico in the past).

There is a nice sized closet for your clothing that has about 10 hangers, 4 with clips to hang long pants from which was a nice touch. You have two very nice robes in your closet for your use during the week, and you can buy robes if you like them. There is a programable safe large enough for anything you brought that should go into a safe. We did keep passports and wallets in there but we felt very secure about leaving our phones and electronics out. This job is too good for them to take a chance of being fired over trying to steal and iPhone. If your electronics go missing it is probably because you left it somewhere, not because the maid took it.

There is a dresser with three large drawers in the room next to the closet. It is built-in next to the closet. You have more than enough room for two people to store the contents of your suitcases.

There is a very nice table with two chairs. I kept my computer set up on it but it would have been nice for a room service meal.

The TV had about 40-50 satellite channels. You will be able to watch anything on network TV you want from the states. We enjoyed our TV, but we are TV people.

There is a Bluetooth radio that will allow you to hook into a larger speaker from your Bluetooth smart phone or other electronics to listen to your own music. It was a nice touch that made the use of earbuds unnecessary.

You have control of your own room temperature. I think it varied from 19°c-26°c. I did find our room warm at times but that is because at home we have a fan in the room.

There is actually a bar in your room. I found this to be over kill but I guess some people can’t get enough from the gazillion bars and restaurants at this hotel. They also stock a fridge with soft drinks and a few beers. I am diabetic and tried to get them to take out the regular soft drinks and just put diet coke and water. After three days, I gave up. They never did understand what I wanted. We drank the water and the one diet coke they left us every day.

The lights and switches take a day to get to know, but there are lots of ways to light your room. I did find it annoying that the light from the bathroom came into the room when my wife would use the restroom at night. That is a flaw in the room design, but overall the lights were very nice. Plenty of light to read at night before you go to sleep.

They have a large double sink in the bathroom. This was another very modern touch. My wife loved it. I hated it. It’s all a matter of taste, but it is super functional for two people on vacation.

Your room is stocked with rock spa bathroom products that are free. They were very nice.

The FREE Wi-Fi in our room very strong. It never faded at all during our stay. I am an internet person and I was happy having my internet strong the entire trip.

There is an upstairs terrace to the sky suite with an amazing view and a DOUBLE JACUZZI!!! The jacuzzi pools by the beach and the public pools are all too cold. In your private jacuzzi you control the temperature yourself!!! It takes about 10 minutes to fill the jacuzzi and the cool evenings up here were very magical! The privacy of the rooftop terrace of building one would make me request that building again.

Last, but not least, about the room – the maid service is basically twice a day but our cleaning crew came in more than twice. I really think they watch somehow and when you leave your room is always freshened. There are privacy/clean now tags that some rooms had. We did not have one in our room and never found a need for one so we didn’t request it.

POOLS AND BEACH AREAS –

By my count there are 13 pools and beaches on the grounds of this resort giving you so many choices that EVERYONE should be able to find a place they love. We did not use any of the pools or beaches on the Hacienda side but they were available to us had we wanted to go over there. We did go over the entire resort and the pools and spa tubs were spotless in the entre resort, cleaner than any hotel we have ever stayed at in all of Mexico. I have a pool in my backyard and I will say that the pools at the Hard Rock seemed to be as well-kept as my private pool.

Our favorite place on the resort was the EDEN BEACH and Eden Jacuzzi. This area is all adults and is the most relaxing place we found at the Hard Rock. The waiters and the bar staff here was at a level of the best of any place we have ever traveled in our 39 years of marriage. AMAZINGLY SUPERIOR is how I would describe them.

Albert was by far the best waiter I have ever had anywhere. Hook up with him and your drink will never be empty. On the days when Albert was not there, Victor was almost as amazing as Albert. On many occasions, we wanted to get out of the sun for a little while we went into the Eden Bar. Carlos was one of the nicest, most polite, kind bartenders we have ever been around.

There is food catered to the bar at the EDEN BEACH BAR and it was basic, but was wonderful all week long. Chicken fingers, fish fingers, the best jalapeno cheese poppers I have ever tasted, cheese fingers, burgers, and other things. The food here was among the warmest on the entire resort (this was an issue at many food places).

To the EDEN BEACH STAFF, especially Albert, Victor and Carlos, you deserve more credit for making our vacation special than anyone at this resort. We thank you very much!

NOTES ABOUT OTHER POOL AND BEACH AREAS –

Towel service – The towels were stacked and you helped yourself. We were never asked for a towel card or a room key to get a towel. This was super nice. THANK YOU HARD ROCK FOR THE WAY YOU HANDLE THIS SERVICE!

Waiters at most pool areas – the waiters at the different pool areas were great. Eden Beach had the best, but they were all excellent.

Jacuzzi water was NEVER HOT – this was a complaint of many guests. When we were there the temperatures ranged from 75°F-84°F which left the water COLD…. Make that VERY COLD. Everyone said they were looking forward to even warm water. Not one public jacuzzi we found was heated or even warmed.

Water cleanliness – all the pools and spas were spotless the week we were at the Hard Rock!

There is a foam party at the Toro pool. We are old and we watched the young people have a blast. Looked like lots of fun. 20 years ago we would have been in the middle of the action.

There was a beach party at the EDEN BEACH which we did choose to take part. It was fun floating around watching others have a blast. We really enjoyed this event.

The music by the pools was inconsistent. It could have been louder in some areas, and softer in others. Management needs to get this a little better adjusted.

We enjoyed one afternoon up by the Toro pool. This was more like the other resorts we went to in the past. I enjoyed the staff here, but enjoyed the serenity of the Eden pool more because I’m getting old.

There are some private pool areas for people who have bought into the Hard Rock Hotels. This was okay with me but it was unnecessary because the resort has so many areas that you can find a private area if you want.

If I was going to say anything negative about the pool areas it would be about the stairs. BE CAREFUL going up and down steps. They are inconsistent in size. I broke a toe, and bruised two other tows badly, on the steps by the Eden beach. There is not a lot you can do about it, and it was my fault for not paying better attention. I’m home now and still in pain. Just be careful when going up and down stairs, especially near the beach areas.

There are rental cabanas (for which you can use resort credits) but we found them unnecessary. The people who had them enjoyed them, but we spent 99% of the time in the water. We just put our towels on the ledge by the Eden Bar where we could see them and nobody ever touched them. I find the clientele that goes to a nicer upscale resort to be of the level you really do not need to worry about your items.

RESTAURANTS –

We ate dinner at IPANEMA (three times), PIZZETO, TORO, and ZEN,. We ate at the EDEN BEACH BAR for dinner once because we were tired from travel. We ate lunch at the Eden Bar, The bar area beside the Toro Pool at what we think was the Dive Bar and snacks. We also at lunch at Ciao and Toro (a few times).

We ate breakfast at CIAO almost every morning.

BREAKFAST AT CIAO was nice. Cecelia was the best at making omelets which I enjoy both at home and on vacation. Her service was exceptional. I liked most of the other food on the buffet lines but I was concerned about the temperature of the food. Bacteria grows rapidly in the range of temperatures between 40°F and 140°F and there is zero doubt in my mind that the food on the buffet was in this temperature range. If you aren't going to serve hot food right away, it's important to keep it at 140 °F or above. And this was an issue at many areas at this resort, but I found it worst at the Ciao breakfast buffet areas.

My wife has had stomach distress the past two mornings. Wonder if it was the food bacteria from the areas with food not kept at proper temperatures that caused this. Today she is home and seeing a doctor just to make sure this does not get worse. Of course, she could have picked up a bug from a fellow guest.

Dinner at IPANEMA is a special. This is a Brazilian Churrascaria style restaurant. The meats are exceptional, especially the New York Strip. Do not miss the pineapple at the end, and the Chocolate Volcano cake is the best dessert we had at the entire resort. We ate at Ipanema twice, and went there just for dessert once.

Exceptional servers at Ipanema were Leydi, Tere, Leoncio, Victor, and Gaby. Thank you to all of them for exceptional service and for making us feel so welcome. I think it was also at Ipanema that Esteban and Giny took good care of us but I failed to write down the restaurant when they helped us. Kari was also nice in greeting us at Ipanema.

Pizzeto was a great disappointment. We went there and the staff there was very cold and did not welcome us. We felt like they did not want us to be there. One gentleman was trying but the others were rude. I wish I had the name of the man who was nice but we got up and left and actually skipped most of dinner that evening. We went to Ipanema and got dessert. I would not suggest going to Pizzeto for an evening meal.

Toro was exceptional in service, both during the day and evening. We ate lunch there twice for lunch and three young women (Gabriela, Edolia, and Favi) made us so happy. They always had a smile. They learned our names the first time we went there and when we returned they welcomed us by name. We took a picture with them after our second meal there for lunch because they made us feel so special.

At night Toro was also great! I would make a suggestion to them that they serve a smaller steak, but make it okay to ask for a second serving. We both left half our steak not because it was not good, but because it was so large. I felt bad because I was wasting a nice piece of meat.

I do not eat at the Hibachi restaurants at home but I decided to try Zen on vacation. The grill show put on by Vincente was exceptional and Samuel was a fabulous waiter. Thanks to them both for the professional manner they took care of us. The food was better than I thought it would be, especially the meats. I’m very happy I tried it.

DRESS CODES –

We chose to dress nice at night but I did not see anyone get turned away from a restaurant. They want everyone to be happy. Nice shorts and a shirt with a collar is considered dressy. Relax, this resort is very informal, but you will also feel comfortable if you do like we did and dress a little nicer for dinner.

THE HEAVEN ROCK SPA -

I have a massage therapist at home whom I have seen for many years. Her hands have a special energy and I have never found a person with her energy until now! Ana was my therapist, and Vi (Victor) took care of my wife. We were both happy and both deserve credit. Ana deserves to understand how exceptional she was. I have had bad issues with my right shoulder for years. They need to do surgery but because of a bad heart they have not done it.

Ana gave me more relief for my shoulder than I have had in many years. If he lived here in my home town I would change to her for treatments every two weeks. I was actually able to raise my arm over my head for the first time in a long time. I have had many doctors try to help me with this issue. Thank you Ana for the relief you gave me during my vacation. I take pain medication every day and for my vacation it was not needed for a few days. Ana you are a special lady. Thank you!

With the resort credit a couple’s massage was $93USD. This was the best money I spent on this vacation!

RESORT STORES –

There were a lot of shops at the Hard Rock Resort. Basically, the shops in the lobby area of the Heaven are duplicated in the Hacienda lobby. I will say that we enjoyed walking through both and we found the employees in the different shops to be more or less polite than their counterparts. Yoko in the Hacienda Rock Shop was very polite and nice to work with. I thank her for her service.

Fini is a nice jewelry store. The use of credits is insane here are the rules for the different items in the store are just stupid. See my comments on resort credits at the end of this review.

There is a little store where they sell local souvenirs and alcohol. The prices here are ridiculous. Bottle of Havana Club Anejo Especial for which we paid $14USD in Playa del Carmen was $34USD at this store. The souvenir glasses and shot glasses were triple what we paid in Playa del Carmen. Resort credits were only available on a few items in these stores.

RESORT CREDITS –

Resort credits at the Hard Rock are IN MY OPINION very hard to understand during your vacation. They are good for somethings, not good for others, and partially good on somethings. Confused yet? In my opinion I think they need to get rid of these stupid credits and charge the great prices which I think most guests would appreciate more. We had 3000 resort credits, and we were charged 20% on most things when we used the credits. We were charged 20% on other purchases but the number of credits you could use were limited.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF RESORT CREDIT USE –

In the spa, we had two couple’s massages (I will discuss the quality of the spa later) for which we used 465 resort credits and were charged $93USD (for each massage). $93USD is a wonderful price, but why do they go through the charade of using credits? Just charge $93USD for a couples massage and be done with it. My wife had a pedicure and a manicure and it took high school algebra to figure out that the price in the US dollars would be $15, but when it ended up on our bill it was $12.80USD.

Okay HARD ROCK …. Nobody is going to spend $465USD on a couple’s massage. Just be honest and charge $93USD and be done with it! And why is a single massage $220USD and a couple’s massage not $440USD when they are only using one room instead of two? You get a $15 upcharge instead of a discount. It does not make any sense, but that’s okay…. We did it anyways!!!

In the Fini Jewelry store you got up to a certain amount of credit on silver, a certain amount of credit on gold, a certain amount on designer sunglasses, and on some items you could not use credits at all. They had this beautiful gold flip-flop with an Australian Opel insert and it was $840 but after they figured the magical credits and discounts it was $330USD. Why not just charge $330USD and make it easy instead of charging one price and then pretending to give us a discount. By the way, we found some of the same jewelry in town for lower than your magical discounted price.

So the credits are nice to make some of the high resort prices go down. I just wish they would be up front and do away with the credits and give us a straight price. I felt like I was at a car dealership the entire time I was in any of the stores dealing for the lowest price.

WHAT WOULD I CHANGE ABOUT THE RESORT? –

A bus into and returning from Playa del Carmen was something that we had offered at every other resort we stayed at in the RIVIERA MAYA. A cab cost us $270PESOS ($20USD) each way to Playa del Carmen. Going into town is something you will want to do once. (Be prepared for people to say they were your waiter at the Hard Rock. They recognize the wrist bands we wear.)

I would like to see warmer Jacuzzi Tubs and Pools.

My biggest concern was the food temperatures on the buffets. I wish they would make the food warmer to prevent bacteria growth on the food.

WHAT WAS THE BEST THING AT THE RESORT?

Your employees seem to enjoy working for the Hard Rock Hotel. The Smiles were magical. I have never been to a resort, or on a cruise, where I enjoyed the people as much as I did on this vacation. Read my TripAdvisor profile and my hundreds of reviews. The people at your resort are what makes it special!

I hope you enjoyed my review. I hope you found it helpful. I am posting many pictures and I hope they answer your questions. There are hundreds of fabulous resorts in the Riviera Maya. I don’t think anyone knows which is really the best. I have been happy at every resort we have stayed at in this area. I will say this. NO RESORT IN THE RIVIERA MAYA WORKED AS HARD TO MAKE ME HAPPY AS THE HARD ROCK HOTEL RIVERA MAYA. WE HOPE TO RETURN SOME DAY.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. Heaven is a perfect honeymoon destination! Make sure you are truly on the "Heaven" side as it is adults only, and much quieter.

I used Resort Credits for the Rock Spa experience. Absolutely worth it! (Remember when using the Resort Credits you still pay 20% i.e. My Spa totaled $1,000. So $200 was charged to my room.) I enjoyed the services immensely, and the individual assigned to me went above and beyond - I had a facial, body exfoliation, and body wrap! Incredible!

The guys in our group took a ferry to Cozumel to do some diving and to the Cenotes (Underground caves), while the girls took a taxi to "Fifth Avenue" for some true Mexican shopping. Lots of vendors with goods to sell, and very much worth the day trip. The taxi will pick up at the resort, and WAIT while you shop.

Also on our list was Delphinius - swimming with the dolphins. A MUST! Its' a shorter time framed activity, and we booked a private 4 person group with the resort. AWESOME! It was so much fun to swim with the dolphins!

We passed on Chichen Itza simply because it was an all day excursion, 3 hours each way on the bus. I also heard that it is so much better to ask for a private tour guide. Then you don't get stuck waiting on everybody. We were only there a week, but it might work out well for you.

You can take snorkeling lessons right there at the resort.

It's a great place - Ipanema is my favorite meal - be sure to arrive hungry!! There's a pizza joint Pizzeta that you can order something quick at lunch, it's on the other side where all the kids are. Toro has a great lunch buffet. You just have to try all the restaurants, you'll probably find a few favorites of your own. Ciao provided great Italian food. Zen provided a really nice Hibachi experience. There are different food choices and the food is great and abundant! You will definitely have time to try them all!

They have shows each night by the swimming area. Look for the local activities. There's morning yoga, etc.

I would spend the first day just wandering the resort to get the "lay of the land", be sure to catch the transportation from one location to another. It's a very large resort, but we found ourselves enjoying the walks. Everyone speaks great English!

You're going to love it! I hope your wedding day brings you much joy, and your honeymoon is all that you hope that it will be!

Everything is included but there are extra's such as lobster tail, or champagne available for upgrades and those are extra charge or you can use resort credits. The steak house in the casino at punta cana, DR charges

Hi! You are going to simply love this place. My husband and I stayed on the heaven side and my husband mainly wore linen shorts and "dressier" flip flops. He did not pack and closed toe shoes and we never had an issue. Hope you enjoy!
