I stayed at Murasakian for 7 days. Initially I only booked the place for the experience of classical Japanese house. I surely did get what I wanted, but I feel I got so much more. The rooms are a bit dated but that is what I anticipated. I got good night's sleep every day despite hot summer weather. However, for me those were mostly irrelevant. Staying in that area with hints from host, allowed me to have some of the best memories from my trip to Japan. On my first day the host gave me tips with regards to what is worth seeing, where I can eat and I haven't been disappointed with any of those. The highlight was a very specific market at a shrine that happens once every month which I would have no chance seeing otherwise. The host also surprised me with photo session in full Japanese suit and katana at the end. If you want to experience good hospitality and spend some time in less touristy part of Kyoto, this is the place for you.…
