Room was sparkling! Abbie & Kim gave us a true experience through all our needs! Chef Tina's yummy awaiting Hors d' oeuvres: bacon wrapped dates, wings or chili w/ condiments (on a stormy day). Amazing Beef Bourguignon, Shrimp Creole and a wow on her halibut dish! Have you tried desserts lately? Tina's German Chocolate cake & Key Lime Pancetta is really good! Cannot wait to have this chef do a wine dinner at our Farm Shed! Fish processing done on site & and site sparkling! Raingear room organized, bathroom & clean. This was a team working together to provide an experience for guests! This is a rainforest, it rained on the inside, fishing was great on the outside ocean, sockeye doubled in size from first day of fishing to fifth day of fishing. Halibut & rockfish. Never made it to the "Jungle" for the big halibut, but saw 100+ hanging on our arrival day. Loved the float plane in & out!

Let's start with the ugly.... if you think short bald guys are ugly then Steve, the owner, is your guy. (There really was no ugly to be found). Steve has plenty of personality and takes the responsibility of the lodge seriously. My wife and I spent 5 days and 6 nights at Highliner. It was an amazing trip. The bad..... while fishing we were boarded by the state troupers/game wardens. We lost about on hour of fishing because of them. The good.... wow, where do I start? The flight to Pelican was really cool. We flew through the mountains from Juneau with beautiful sights all around. On landing in Pelican Dylan and Abby met us and took us to our room and showed us around. I came to catch fish and I was not disappointed. My wife and I brought home over 300 pounds of halibut and Salmon. We caugh kings, silvers and pinks. On one day of fishing the halibut were so hot and heavy it was non stop action. I lost count of how many fish I pulled in. My two largest halibut were 110 and 90 pounds. Other guests at the lodge caught 180,150, 130 and 120 pound fish while I was there. The captains know where the fish are and how to catch them. It was a blast! I plan to return ASAP for more fishing fun. Every one I met on staff was exceptionally nice and accommodating. There wasn't a bad apple in the bunch. The Highliner is an A+++ lodge in my opinion.

Yes I said it! My trip to the Highliner Lodge was one I will never forget. For starters, the float plane ride in is spectacular. The town itself is unmatched, walking up the ramp you look from left to right and all you see is boardwalk...I've never experienced anything like that. The fishing was GREAT, boats were all well equipped, Captain Hayden was awesome! Accommodations were nice and clean. The staff was very hospitable, you can tell they like what they do, which in my opinion says a lot about a place! Can't wait for my next trip!

Highliner Lodge is located in Pelican Alaska, which is 80 miles west of Juneau and situated a few miles from the gulf of Alaska. Pelican is a tiny town with about 60 year around residents and perhaps several hundred during the summer. The fishing for salmon and halibut is outstanding, in spite of the hodge podge of regulations and closures in effect throughout the season. Some areas were closed during certain days of the week and there were numerous size and species restrictions in effect while we were there. All chinook had to be released, but we caught many good sized cohos to take home. Many rockfish species including yelloweye could not be kept. It was depressing to release fish that were almost certain to die, so we tried to avoid catching them. That being said, the halibut fishing is awesome, but you will be releasing many fish due to maximum size restrictions in one area that is fished the most. The staff are all 5 star. The boats are 5 star and are solid and generally roomy. The fishing gear is of good quality. Food at the lodge is 4 star, with some excellent dinners. Breakfast is pretty basic and lunches consist of sandwiches and snacks with drinks on the boats. The rooms at at the lodge are adequate and clean but if you are bothered by hearing neighbors and people outside on the boardwalk you should consider paying a bit extra and staying in a very nice private home that is a short walk from the lodge.
