First, is fair to say that this client is a very kind person. He contacted us, by phone, 3 days before his wished date. He was little concern about the weather. At that hour I was on a boat on the middle of the lagoon, therefor we agree to check the forecast and speak again later and that was it.

After compare our points of view, we agree that Saturday may be the nicest day on a period of 3 days. The forecast showed wind from the North-North-East around 12-15 knots and waves of 0.7 meters.

Also he let me know that he was interested on 8 hours trip for his family, small kids included. I asked him about their experience on the ocean, particularly on deep sea fishing trips. They had no experience and with two little girls on the group, I recommend to change to 6 hours, then he agreed.
Also I let them know that any fishing company wouldn’t refund money if they cut the trip early, no matter if he book an 8 hours trip and come back 30 minutes after the departure.

The day of the trip, it was sunny but the windy. We introduced our self with the group, showed them the boat and after a few questions, I recommend them to do only for 4 hours and they agree and departure.

1 hours and 30 minutes later, I received call from the captain, they were heading back to the dock, with some people with motions sickness. He also said that he offered them to change the plan to Isla Mujeres or to some beach around Cancun to spend some relaxing time, but they refused.

So, I was there to received them (no matter the results of any trip, we always give the face to our clients). After a conversation with our client in a very kind tone, he told me that his daughters got sea sick, as well some members of their family and that´s why they cut the trip early.
Also he said thanks for recommend only a 4 hours trips (remember that he asked for 8 hours at the first conversation). I let them know that the driver was at the door ready to take them to the hotel.

We considere fishing as a family activity because most of our clients are families. Parents, sons, daughters, grandpa, etc., and some of them with small kids. Most of the people return to the dock happy and with no problems. I´m not saying that this was our client family´s fault, not at all, I´m saying that sea sickness has to do with each person and how the people are used to the ocean, some people get it even in a day of calm on a huge cruise ship.

Now, we did not take any advantage of the situation avoiding information. We can´t recommend give some pill for the motion sickness to a kid, because we are not doctors and we can´t take the responsibility to prescribe any pill. I heard about people who slept for 3 days after took Dramamine, that is why we don’t provided it and is responsibility of each person to take it or not.

About the weather, some useful information about Cancun. The Harbor Master is prone to not allow fishing navigation if wind gusts over 20 knots (around 30 km per hour) for several hours. But the wind is not the only factor that determines a rough ocean, also has to do with wind direction, how big are the waves, intervals of it, currents, tide, rain, season of the year, etc.
In other words, the wind speed is just a part of the conditions of the ocean. As our client did, we check the Windguru, between others sources, but inside this application there are many stations where you can check the ocean conditions (we use Cancun Main Beach) and this is only a reference.
With the weather nothing is sure in any place.

Final words, if you are considering a deep sea fishing trip in Cancun and you think that the fish is going to be there just waiting that someone hook it (this is more like hunting) or that Cancun ocean is calm like a swimming pool, well is not like that.

Deep sea fishing is an outdoor activity, the boat will be moving on open sea, some days is rough and others is not. If you want to do this activity, please accept that you or one of your group may be seasickness, even if the day is calm. If you are not willing to accept this, is better think in another activity.

From our point of view, is not fair to our business to get a 2 start review when it wasn’t our fault, as the client wrote, everything was OK (the boat, service crew, communication, etc). Is not our fault if you had a bad time because some people of your family got seasickness, we never had the intention to recommend more hours to earn more money or to cheat you with fake information (the client as well us, checked the forecast). Instead, we told them the true and welcome them at their return to the dock.
